HUSKINS, James Lester - 83, of Queens Manor, Liverpool, passed away peacefully, Saturday, February 23, 2008 in Queens Manor. Born in Port Mouton, he was the son of the late James F. and Nellie S. (Smith) Huskins. Lester was a former member of the Royal Canadian Army Corps. He worked for Bowater Mersey Paper Company in Brooklyn for 34 years in the TMP plant. He is survived by his wife Gertrude (Whynot); daughter Deborah (Merle) Smiley of Port Medway; son Robert (Jean) of Liverpool; grandchildren: Rene Donovan (Dwayne David) of Louisdale, Trevor Smiley (Shirley Casey) of Liverpool, Shelly, at home, Christopher (Lana Conrad) of Lower Sackville, Tracy (Douglas) Richards of Hunt’s Point, Keshia of Hunt’s Point; great granddaughter Paige Donovan; sisters: Winnie Wagner of West Berlin, Connie MacAdams of Acton, ON, Rosalyn (Donald) Henderson of Sandy Cove. He was predeceased by a son Wayne; grandson Corey; sisters Joyce and Marjorie; brother Isaiah. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. Mabel Elizabeth Upshaw – 88, of Kentville, passed away peacefully, Saturday, February 23, 2008 at home. Born in East Jordan, Shelburne County, she was a daughter of the late Florence Hartley. She was employed at Zeller’s and other retail stores for many years. She will be remembered as the helpful, smiling lady at Zeller’s who collected money for the Cystic Fibrosis Moonwalk Program. In total she raised over $100,000.00. She also received an award from Mila Mulroney for her charity work for this cause. She sold AVON products and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion, Kings Branch No. 6, Kentville. She is survived by a daughter, Margaret “Peggy” Karamitsos, Kentville; two sons, Raymond (Ida), Three Mile Plains and Irvin (Linda), Montreal; grandchildren, Deanna (Gary) Simmonds, Rayvonne (Steven) Carrington, Maria (Michael) Karamitsos-Moody, Danielle (Richard) Simmons, Irvin Jr. (Sharon), Raymond Jr. (Jennifer), Thane (Tammy); 17 great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by an aunt, Annie Acker; four uncles, Leander Hartley, Jake Hartley, Leeman Hartley and Robert Hartley. Cremation has taken place. Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. Monday, February 25, 2008 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the celebration of her life, followed by a reception, was held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 26, 2008, Reverend Garnet Parker, Reverend Doctor Judith Saunders, and Reverend Jennifer Riley officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in the New Anglican Cemetery, Shelburne. Family flowers only, by request. Donations in memory may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Society or the Annapolis Valley Victorian Order of Nurses. Special thanks to Carrie Bezanson, Christine Davis and the VON nurses who made it possible for Mabel to stay in her home throughout her lengthy illness. William Walker Tibbetts, 76, of Brampton, Ontario, passed away on Thursday, February 21, 2008, at Brampton Civic Hospital. Born in Weymouth, Digby County, he was the son of the late John Tibbetts and the late Fanny (Walker) Tibbetts. He was a veteran of the Royal Canadian Navy, 1949-1970, and served in the Korean War. He is sadly missed by his partner, Geraldine O’Ryan; daughters, Valerie, Kim, and Stephanie; eight stepchildren and their families; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother, Curtis (Linda), Mississauga; sister, Eva, Bear River; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Dorothy; stepmother, Marjorie Tibbetts; and brother, David. The funeral was held at Ward Funeral Home, Brampton Chapel, on Saturday, February 23, 2008, officiated by Rev. Bill Craven. Interment of cremated remains took place at Brampton Memorial Gardens. Donations in Bill’s memory may be made to the Lung Association.
