Car crash claims one life
A Yarmouth County woman is dead following a single vehicle crash which happened on the Saunders Road in Raynardton, Yarmouth County.
The RCMP say the victim of the crash was 23-year-old Nikol Balcom.
The accident happened around 9:50 Saturday evening.
RCMP say road conditions were very slippery.
Police also say the vehicle apparently left the road and struck a culvert.
Balcom was the lone occupant of the car was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, according to a police report.

I think it is time for the Provincial Government to start doing something in this province about the seatbelt issue as well as the drinking and driving issue.
Since my return to this Province, July 07, it is amazing how many people are either being killed or injured on the 101 and 103 and all you hear is that they were not wearing a seatbelt or drinking.
It is time to hold a referendum on these issues and start making this a priority.
If we start increasing the fines, say $500.00 for a first offense of driving without a seatbelt, people will start taking this serious. As for drinking and driving, $1800.00 for a first offence and lost of licence for 5 years.
We have to start doing something, here in the valley is the worse place I have seen in this country and I have been from one end to the other.
I have never worried about my spouse driving and now, everytime she gets in the car, I pray that she will return home safely.
