CLARE TAKES 1-0 SERIES LEAD
The Clare Lions jumped ahead 1-0 in their best-of-five division final series with the Barrington Ice Dogs.
The Lions won 4-2 Friday night in Clare. Shawn Bernard scored two goals for Clare and Mario Blinn and Ryan Gallant each added singles. Kyle Dillman and Travis Smith scored for the Ice Dogs.
Game two of the N.S. Jr. C series goes Saturday in Barrington.
YARMOUTH AAA MARINERS OFF TO PROVINCIALS
The Yarmouth atom AAA Mariners are off to Cape Breton for the 2008 atom AAA provincials.
Yarmouth toped a team from the South Shore two games to one to earn the birth.
The six-team tournament gets underway March 12 in Sydney.
ATOM A MARINERS SHUT-OUT CLARE 8-0
The Wedgeport Kwik Mart Atom A Mariners blanked Clare 8-0 at the Mariners Centre on Saturday.
Matthew Hines had a hat-trick for Yarmouth. Also scoring for the Mariners were Shayna Heroux, Jacob Surette, Tyler Greene, Stephen Shaw and Cole Jacquard.
Colby Muise had the shut-out in net.
Contributing assists were Cameron Wallace and Nick Cudmore with three apiece, Jonnie O’Donnell with a pair, and Maguire Breton, Matthew Hines, Shayna Heroux, Quinten Johnson and Cole Jacquard with one assist each.
The Atom A Mariners will be one of four teams involved in a tournament in Chester this weekend. The other teams in the March 8-9 tournament are Chester, Shelburne and Acadia.
The following weekend the Mariners will play a tournament in Clare.
