World Day of Prayer

March 7

The World Day of Prayer service will be held on Friday, March 7, at 7 p.m. at Zion Baptist Church, Parade St., Yarmouth. Churches taking part are Beacon, Holy Trinity, St. Ambrose, New Life, Yarmouth North Baptist, Salvation Army and Zion Baptist. (There will also be an ecumenical service at St. Peter’s Anglican Church in Weymouth North, Digby County, at 3 p.m.)

There will be a Saint Patrick’s fundraiser supper at the Beacon Church auditorium on Saturday, March 15, from 4-6. Menu includes punch, beef stew, Irish soda bread, cheesecake, cookies. Bake table, door prizes, eat in or take out. Adults $7, children under 12, $4. Sponsored by IODE Leif Erikson Chapter.

The Bits and Boots Saddle Club’s meeting will be held ion the Superstore meeting room March 17 at 7 p.m. Discussion will be about the 2008 program, activities and membership renewals.

Program

Starts March 18

Tri-county residents are invited to attend the Heart and Stroke “Live and Learn” patient education series presented by South West Health’s stroke program. The free program begins Tuesday, March 18 (2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.) and will run each Tuesday afternoon for four weeks. The session will be repeated in the evenings 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. beginning Wednesday, May 7 for four weeks. Most presentations will take place at Yarmouth Regional Hospital but will be broadcast by Telehealth to Digby General Hospital and Roseway Hospital. This way, participants can attend the course at their local hospital. To register for the “Live and Learn” session call 902-742-3542 ext. 460.





Divorce care program

Starts March 24

Yarmouth Wesleyan Church will be offering a 13 week program on divorce care starting Monday, March 24, 6:30-8 p.m. Topics include: what’s happening to me?, the road to healing/finding help, facing anger, depression, single sexuality and more. Easter service

An Easter sunrise service will be held at the Cape Forchu Lightstation on Sunday, March 23, at 6:45a.m. This will be a non-denominational service. Refreshments will be served in the Mug Up Tea room in the light keeper’s house after the service. Sponsored by the Friends of the Yarmouth Light Society. Art gallery tours

Actors needed

The Tri-County Women's Centre is looking for French and English speaking female actors, musicians, and back stage help for the production of the Vagina Monologues. V-Day 2008 will be the fifth and final year of the monologues in Yarmouth. Call 742-0085 for

Volunteers needed

Volunteers are needed to fill several positions on the Yarmouth Red Cross Emergency response Team in Yarmouth. Focus on providing relief assistance to people in the community who have experienced a personal disaster or responding to a medium or large scale disaster. Training provided. The Baby and Me peer support group meets Tuesday mornings, 10 - 11:30, at Yarmouth Superstore’s community room. All infants with their parents and/or grandparents, as well as pregnant women, are welcome. Peer breastfeeding support is also available. Further info at 902-742-7141.
