A Liverpool parking control report reveals 13 ways to improve the current system over a three-year period.
“There has not been a comprehensive review of parking in Liverpool for a very, very long time,” said Region of Queens Municipality Mayor John Leefe. “We thought it was time to have an overall review done of parking and to determine what parking regulations, procedures should be in place as we move forward.”
A parking review was done over a six-month period during which 420 internet users completed an online survey.
One reason for the review is the Liverpool area’s increase in traffic.
“This is a good kind of problem to have,” commented the mayor.
Increased traffic is a strong indication the Liverpool area continues to be a significant service centre and economic generator, he continued.
“We will be disseminating the recommendations to various organizations, such as the South Queens Chamber of Commerce,” said Mayor Leefe.
The report lists seven recommendations for phase one in 2008-2009.
Recommendations include Royal Bank of Canada parking lot negotiations, a toys for tickets (fines) campaign and to upgrade and standardize parking signs.
Phase two in 2009-2010 has five recommendations.
One recommendation involves installing a pay and display parking system.
The third and final phase in 2010-2011 has one recommendation, which is to realign the Liverpool waterfront parking area.
On Feb. 18 council referred the report to the Committee of the Whole.
