Queens Co. Adult Day Program

Day Program is available for people with Alzheimer’s or other Dementias full day or half day programs, at Queens Manor or NQ Nursing Home. Lunch is provided for $5 half day & $10 full day. For more info call 682-2553 ext. 5 (Mon & Thur) or 354-3451 ext. 7 (Tue, Wed & Fri).

Free Noon Hour Skating for Adults, Liverpool

Strap on your skates and have an hour of fun skating at Queens Memorial Arena on Old Bridge Street in Liverpool! Adults aged 17 and up can skate from 12 noon - 1 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays until March 29. This is a popular fitness activity for adults in Queens, and a lot of fun, too! In the event of inclement weather, please contact the Recreation Dept. for cancellation notices.

Red Cross Assistant Water Safety Instructor Course (Age 15+)

This certification course is a pre-requisite to the Red Cross WSI course and covers: instructional skills including teaching methods, learning styles, progressions, communication, safety supervision and feedback. Certified AWSI can co-teach the Red Cross Swim programs under the supervision of a fully certified WSI. This is a 30-hour course, with an additional eight hours practice teaching. Please call our office at 543-2274 or email us at recreation@bridgewater.ca and leave your name, phone number, mailing, and email address if you are interested in taking this course in the spring.

Water Safety Instructor (Age 16+)

This course develops instructional ability by focusing on how to apply the information learned in the Assistant Water Safety Instructor Course. Candidates will learn how to effectively plan and teach the Red Cross Swim Program (i.e. preschool, swim kids, and aquaadults). This is a 25-hour course, with 12 hours additional teaching experience. Upon successful completion, candidates are certified as WSI. National Lifeguard Service (Pool Option) & Standard First Aid & CPR (BLSC) (Age 16+)

The recognized standard of lifeguard performance in Canada. Participants will learn lifeguarding and emergency care techniques and principles for a pool environment. Participants must have Bronze Cross and be 16 years of age by exam date. Proof of Bronze Cross and age is required at registration. Participants must attend all classes. Refunds will be issued prior to March 21. Instructor: Krista Elvidge. Dates: Fri. March 28 5-10 p.m.; Sat. March 29 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; Sun. March 30 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.; Fri. April 4 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; and Sat. April 5 9 a.m.-5 p.m., at emOcean Spa & Lunenburg Academy. Review & Exam Date: TBA. Fee: $160. Contact Bridgewater Parks, Recreation and Culture Department at 902-543-2274.

Community Volunteer Income Tax Program

Registration for the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program will be taken at the Recreation Department by call 354-5741. This service is free of charge and is available for low income/simple tax situations (Single person under $25,000 per year/Family under $30,000 per year). For more information and to schedule your appointment, please contact the Recreation Department.

In February, we challenge Families to "Take the Roof Off Winter"

During the months of Feb. and March, get out, get active and have some family fun, and you could win a prize! Call the Recreation Dept. at 354-5741 and tell us what your family did to "Take the Roof off Winter," and you will be entered to win weekly draws for prizes, as well as entered to win the grand prize of a family weekend getaway at White Point Beach Resort, donated by South Shore Safe Communities. Call in Mondays in March until March 18th for your chance to win!

Take the Roof Off Winter, Liverpool

Join the Recreation Department and Queens Family Resource Centre for a Family Mini Amazing Race on March 8 from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. at the South Queens Junior High School Soccer Field. Be prepared to be challenged physically and mentally in this fun event filled with Winter activities. Prizes will be awarded, and hot chocolate will be served! Following the Family Mini Amazing Race, there will be free skating for families at the Queens Memorial Arena from 1:30 - 3:00 p.m. for families with children up to age 14. Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult. This free skate is sponsored by the Region of Queens Recreation Department in cooperation with Queens Family Resource Centre. Please pre-register by March 3.

Dance Dance Revolution, Liverpool

You don't have to know how to dance to have fun with Dance Dance Revolution! It is the hot new trend sweeping the country! No previous experience required! Be ready to slip off your sneakers and dance, dance, dance in the Liverpool Regional High School Gym on March 10 from 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. Dress comfortably. A snack is provided. Space is limited to 30 participants. Ages: 7 -12 years. Cost: $3 per person. Please pre-register by March 7.

Family Skate, Liverpool

Spend the morning skating with your family and friends March 11 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at the Queens Memorial Arena. Have fun and be fit! Ages up to 13 unless accompanying a child under 10. Cost $2. No pre-registration is required.

Glow Bowling (Ages 5-7), Liverpool

Strikes, spares or gutterballs - we’ll have a great time at the Liverpool Bowling Centre on March 11! Wear white for glow in the dark fun! Space is limited. Cost: $3 per person. Ages 5-7 years from 1- 2:30 p.m., and ages 8-12 years from 3-4:30 p.m. Please pre-register by March 7.

Illusions Workshop, Brooklyn

Want to learn how to do cool illusions and magic tricks? Join master illusionist Al Bernard for a fun and interactive morning on March 12 from 9:30 a.m. – 12:00 noon. This workshop will have you performing what you have learned for your parents at an 11:30 a.m. show! Ages 6-12 years. Space is limited. Cost: $18 per person. Please pre-register by March 7.
