Hello, everyone. What a week it has been for me. Of course, I had hockey practice for the kids Monday night, Friday night, Saturday and a game on Sunday, but in amongst all this my home computer went on the fritz.
I thought I had fixed it, it seemed to be running a lot better, but then it wouldn’t start at all. I’m typing this news on an alternate computer now while mine is at the doctor having some repairs done. I look forward to getting it back soon.
I believe, according to our groundhog prediction, spring should be here in about two weeks. Do you think he lied? All we’ve had since that day is snow, rain and more snow. I don’t know about you, but I’ve had just about enough.
Surprisingly though, I was speaking to a business associate in Florida Feb. 28 and it was only 28 degrees Fahrenheit. That’s in Florida! Wow; I guess at least we know it’s cold in February for us. Florida is probably in shock.
Hockey season is approaching its end for the kids and with that comes tournaments. You should try to attend one and see how hard these kids work and how much fun they have. Remember, too, this also means the 50/50 tickets that are sold to support hockey are almost over. Just two weeks of draws left for me. If you want to purchase a ticket, call me at 542-1247. The draw is every Wednesday night.
The card party for Feb. 26 was another fun evening with nine-and-three-quarters tables in attendance. The women’s high went to Eva Morine and Don Woodworth won the men’s high. The low went to Gary Farris.
Carthel Illsley won the 50/50, Les Allen won the door prize and the traveler went to Bud Pinch. Again, thank you to all of the volunteers that make this fun activity possible.
Feb. 24 brought an event to the White Rock Community Hall that many attended. Cameras were in abundance, especially considering the special guest. The Nova Scotia Boy Scouts were celebrating their 100th anniversary. The hall was full with Scouts in their uniforms and accompanying parents to celebrate the special occasion.
Also in attendance were Kings South MLA David Morse and Lt. Gov. Mayann E. Francis. The Lt. Governor spoke a little about her childhood and the rules when she was growing up, and about the experiences of learning as children grow. Everyone listened very attentively.
I don’t have any birthdays to report this week due to my computer being temporarily out of commission (I don’t have access to all of my notes), but I will report any special dates missed in next week’s report. Have a great week – talk to you again soon.
