Simon and Garfunkel tribute in Liverpool
Mark March 1 on your calendar, as two of the worlds best know singers take the stage in the form of Nova Scotian actors/musicians Colin Appleton and Marty Burt.
Anyone who grew up listening to the music of Simon and Garfunkel and always wanted to attend a live show should be at the Astor that night for an unforgettable night of some of the best-known music ever.

“Art and Paul: A Show They Never Gave!” explores the friendship of Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel. Colin and Marty pay tribute to these musical icons, and the bond that kept them together that passed the test of time like other great friends: Ernie and Burt, peanut butter and jelly, and now, Art and Paul.

The show features 20 of the duo's greatest hits such as “The Sound of Silence,” “Mrs. Robinson,” and “The Boxer.” In addition, the show includes some of Paul Simon's hit solo numbers including, “50 Ways to Leave Your Lover,” “Late in the Evening,” and “Slip Slidin' Away.”

Colin and Marty began playing and singing together a few years ago. One day Marty approached Colin and said, “Will you be Paul Simon to my Art Garfunkel?” A strange and wonderful musical tribute was born.

When asked how singing these songs with Marty has changed his life, Colin has commented, “It's weird whenever I sing I keep hearing Marty as Garfunkel singing some harmony line above me. I can't get his voice out of my head.” When asked the same question Marty has commented, “Trying to achieve the perfect vocal blend is difficult and sometimes I sneak into Colin's house at night and sing to him while he sleeps. It may be extreme, and even illegal, but Garfunkel's harmonies have to be felt on a subconscious level to be truly understood.”

But what is the show really about you may ask? No matter the day, or mood, Marty and Colin will always reply, “The music. It's always about the music. And of course it's about Marty's big hair. After a few three song benefit performances Colin and Marty developed a full show that has played to sell out crowds in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia and they are about to embark on a Nova Scotia tour featuring performances from Neptune Theatre in Halifax to The Savoy Theatre in Glace Bay and all points in between.

Tickets for this show are available at the Astor box office by calling 354-5250. Showtime is 8 p.m. for this great night of music.
