DEVEAU, J. Victor, 68 of Dartmouth, passed away peacefully Wednesday, February 20, 2008 at the VG Hospital after a lengthy battle with cancer. Born in Salmon River, NS on March 30, 1939. He was the son of the late Adolphe and Rachel Deveau. He retired from DRFA where he worked as a carpenter for 27 years. He was a dedicated member of the Halifax Wildlife Association, an avid collector and member of The Antique Tool Collectors. Victor was a member of the St. Thomas Aquinas Social Club where he met his future wife of 44 and a half years, the former Lorraine Chiasson; He is also survived by daughter, Simone (Stephen) Crooks; son, Andrew (Kimberley) Deveau, all of Dartmouth; brothers, Roger (Rita), Dartmouth, Cleveland (Sharon), B.C.; sisters, Loretta (Jack) Dolhanty, B.C., Marguerite (Joseph) MacLellan, ON.; grandchildren, Michelle, David Crooks, Emma Deveau, and many nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place. The family received visitors from 7pm to 9 pm on Friday, February 22 in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main Street, Dartmouth. A Memorial Service was held Saturday at 11 am from St. Thomas More Church, Father Irek Bem officiated. A reception followed in the church hall. Burial in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens. Edna Chesler – 85, formerly of Kentville, passed away Thursday, February 21, 2008 in Evergreen Home for Special Care, Kentville. Born in East Halls Harbour, she was a daughter of the late Willis and Katherine (Thompson) Keizer. Edna graduated from the Provincial Normal College in 1942 and taught school in Prospect and Upper Church Street, Kings County. She was then employed for many years as a bookkeeper in Bermuda and Toronto, returning to Nova Scotia in 1982. She enjoyed playing cards, especially crib, and organized tournaments for over 10 years. She also loved knitting, crocheting and rug hooking and was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Kingston Branch No. 98. She is survived by a brother, Harold (Barb) Keizer, Centreville; 6 nieces and 4 nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Benjamin; a sister, Annie Fife; a brother, Gerald Keizer. There was no visitation by Edna’s request. A gathering of family and friends was held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 25, 2008 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. Charlotte Louise Huntley – 30, of Rockland, Kings County, passed away suddenly Thursday, February 21, 2008 in the QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax Infirmary Site. Born in Kentville, she was a daughter of Louise (Eugene) Misner, Centreville and Byron Huntley, Scotts Bay. Charlotte was employed at Eastern Protein, Kentville and will be sadly missed by her colleagues and many special friends. Charlotte was very kind and had a loving spirit. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her loving spouse, Michael Cochrane; her daughter, Maya Cochrane; a sister, Jo-ellen, Waterville; Michael’s parents, Darrell and Rhonda Cochrane and his sister, Jennifer, all of Ellershouse; maternal grandparents, Homer and Frances Steele, Scotts Bay; many cousins, aunts, uncles and one nephew. She was predeceased by her paternal grandparents, Charles and Mary Huntley. There was no public visitation by request. The funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 24, 2008 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Reverend June Keddy officiated. Greta Viola MacDougall – 96, of Kentville, passed away Thursday, February 21, 2008 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Ilford, England, she was a daughter of the late Oliver and Lillian (Corby) Burrows. She had been employed at Point Edward Hospital, Sydney as manager of the domestic staff. Upon her retirement, she moved to British Columbia and returned to Kentville in her late eighties to be close to family. She is survived by a daughter, Jean (Lad) Javorek, Kentville; two sons, Terrence, Wallasey, England; Kenneth, British Columbia; two grandchildren, Greta (Roderick) Mossman and Steven (Patricia) Javorek; two great grandchildren, Broderick Mossman and Roman Javorek. She was predeceased by her husband, Alexander; a son, Lawrence; a daughter, Dolores. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville and there was no visitation by request. A graveside service will be held at a later date in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill, Kings County. Donations in memory may be made to the Annapolis Valley Victorian Order of Nurses – Home Care. ROBINSON, Richard A. “Rick,” 58, of Cross Street, Mexico, died Sunday, February 17, at the Rumford Hospital, Rumford, Maine after a battle with A.L.S. (Lou Gehrigs Disease). He was born in Rumford, Maine April 14, 1949, a son of John and Melda (Philbrick) Robinson, Sr. Rick graduated from Stephens High School in Rumford Class of 1967 and attended the University of Maine at Farmington. He worked in the purchasing department at Mead Paper Company in Rumford for over 38 years until 2004. He then attended the University of Maine in Mexico and received his degree in Business Administration. Rick also worked at Franklin Memorial Hospital in the purchasing department from June of 2006 to June of 2007. Rick was formerly very active as a Boy Scout Leader. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially fly fishing, hunting, and golfing. He also enjoyed photography and reading.He was married in Rumford, Maine, September 11, 1971 to the former Carleen A. McKenna, who survives, of Mexico, ME. Other survivors include a daughter Jaime Bushie and husband Joel of Dixfield, ME.; a son Jonathan Robinson of Cambridge, VT.; a sister Terry Gurschick husband Keith of Falmouth, Nova Scotia; a brother John Robinson, Jr. of Rumford, ME.; several nieces and nephews; and his pet dog, ‘Sadie.’ Memorial services took place 7 p.m. Wednesday, February 20, at the Meader and Son Funeral Home, 3 Franklin Street, Rumford, Me. 04276 with Dale Thompson officiating. Mae Delina DeMont, 82, of Windsor, Hants County, passed away Friday, February 22, 2008, at the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born on April 9, 1925, in Brookfield, Colchester County, Nova Scotia, she was the only daughter of the late John and Alma (Smith) Elliott. Mae was retired from the former Nova Scotia Textiles, Windsor, where she was employed for many years. She was member of the Salvation Army, and also the Leila Rebekah Lodge No.59, Windsor. Mae, will be sadly missed by her granddaughters, great-grandchildren and by all who knew her. Mae is survived by her granddaughters, Paula (Jeff) McNab, Richmond Hill, Ontario; Cathy (Charlie) Strong, Glace Bay; great-grandchildren, Marni McNab, Greg Addison, Kelsey Strong, Tyler Strong, Fred and Hannah McNab. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, George Henry DeMont (1998); daughter, Carol Fines; and her granddaughter, Sheila Fines. Visitation was 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday, February 25, in Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor. Myrtle Jane Shaw - 90, of Auburn, Kings Co., passed away peacefully, Friday February 22, 2008, in Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born July 25, 1917, in Nicholsville, Kings Co., she was a daughter of the late Bessie Ward and John White. Myrtle was a loving wife and mother. She took great pride in maintaining her home as a homemaker. Her greatest interests were cooking, sharing and visiting with neighbors and friends. She enjoyed going for scenic drives, shopping and dining out. Myrtle’s hobbies were playing cards and caring for her flowers and house plants. She enjoyed music and would spend hours on the phone talking to friends and relatives. She was also a loving grandmother to her daughter’s pets; Misty, Midnite and especially Cinders (the Shih Tzu). Myrtle cherished and found comfort every moment she could spend with Cinders, often helping to care for her. Myrtle will be sadly missed by her many family and friends. Surviving are daughter, Sandra Shaw, Berwick; brother, Roy Ward, Nicholsville; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Edward; brothers, Chester, Vernon, Harold; sisters, Eva, Blanche, Annie; son-in-law, Leeland Veinotte. Peter Vincent Rand – 75, of Scotts Bay Road, Kings County, passed away Friday, February 22, 2008 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville after a battle with cancer. Born on November 14, 1932 in Baxter’s Harbour, he was a son of the late Ethel Rose Rand and Joshua Hazel and stepson of Joseph Sheffield. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, the former Rosanna Lundrigan of Burin, Newfoundland; sons, Ronald (Susan), Kenneth (Denise); grandchildren, Dianna, Kristina, Zachery, Amber and Tamara; a brother, Lewis; a sister, Eileen. He was predeceased by brothers, Henry, John, David, Spicer, Joseph, Rodney; a sister, Marie. Mildred Pearl Nauss – 90, formerly of Coldbrook, Kings County, passed away Saturday, February 23, 2008 in Grand View Manor, Berwick. Born on Tancook Island, she was a daughter of the late George and Jennie (Stevens) Smith. She was a homemaker and a former member of Central Baptist Church, Halifax, where she had been active in several areas of the church, including the choir. She was also a former member of both the North Alton Baptist Church and the Centreville Baptist Church. She is survived by two sons, Donald Nauss, Coldbrook; David (Joyce) Nauss, Halifax; a sister, Elizabeth Raddysh, Edmonton, Alberta; a brother, George (Lorna) Smith, Fredericton, New Brunswick; three grandchildren, Andrew (Cathy) Lewis, Steven Lewis and C. J. Nauss; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Clifford Nauss; a daughter, Margaret Lewis; two sisters, Virginia Mason-Dennis and Ruth Clayton. There was no visitation by family request. Mary Ella Louise Redden – 101, formerly of Kentville, passed away Sunday, February 23, 2008 in Mountain Lea Lodge, Bridgetown. Born in Pinehurst, Lunenburg County, she was a daughter of the late Ezekiel and Lilla (Fancy) Slauenwhite. She had established the Stay Curl Beauty Shoppe in Bridgewater and operated it for many years. She was also a charter member and treasurer of the Business and Professional Women’s Club, a past president and treasurer of the New Horizons Seniors Club and a member of the C.N.I.B and the Multiple Sclerosis Society. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family and is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Harry; sisters, Gladys Kelly and Izilda Webber; brothers, Charles, Lloyd, Frank, Fred, Ralph and Basil. There was no visitation or flowers by request. A graveside committal service will be held at a later date in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill, Kings County. Donations in memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
