Jail time for COGS vandalism
18-year-old gets two years less a day, probation, community service
A man arrested for vandalism at the Centre of Geographic Science in Lawrencetown on the last weekend of December will be doing jail time.

Joshua Lyle Smith, 18, of Lawrencetown was sentenced last Wednesday to two years less a day for his part in the vandalism spree that caused almost $100,000 in damage to windows, computers, vending machines, and other items at the school.

Besides going to jail, Smith will be on probation for three years when he gets out and must perform 200 hours of community service. He must also pay $1,700 in restitution.

Smith had originally been charged with break and enter and mischief.

Two youths were also charged along with Smith after COGS, a building at the Annapolis Valley Exhibition Grounds, and a private residence were broken into.

All three are from Lawrencetown.
