Man facing charges of armed robbery, assault with a weapon
A 44-year old Yarmouth man is in custody facing charges following an alleged armed robbery Thursday, Feb. 21.
Gordon Russell Cromwell is facing nine charges as a result of an incident alleged to have occurred at approximately 2 a.m. on this date. These charges include counts of robbery with a weapon, robbery with violence, assault with a weapon and uttering a threat.
Court documents identify the alleged weapon as a sword, although RCMP Constable Mark Connell suggested it was more a ceremonial sword or large knife.
He said there was only minor injury to a victim.
In provincial court on Monday, Feb. 25, Cromwell and the defence consented to a remand in custody until March 10, at which time he is scheduled for a showcause/bail hearing.
According to the RCMP, the alleged offence took place at a private residence on Argyle Street.
Cromwell was arrested without incident later in the day.
No pleas have been entered to the charges.
