Alarms ring - again - at Somerset
Staff, students out after emergency sensors triggered
BY NANCY KELLY

Kings County Register

Somserset staff and students experienced a bit of deja-vu February 22 when they were forced outdoors after welding equipment triggered a fire-alarm sensor.

The school was just preparing for dismissal when the fire alarm went off at 2:14 p.m. Students were quickly evacuated and loaded onto the buses that had arrived not long before.

The Berwick and District Fire Department responded to the fire call with two trucks, but one was sent back to its Berwick base when it was discovered there was no fire. Students were allowed to re-enter the school and collect their belongings when the all-clear was given by the fire department.

This is the second time in a month fire officials have been called to the school. On one of the coldest days in January - and this winter - an electrical fire forced a midday evacuation of students and staff to nearby Berwick and District School.
