Stove fire cause of New Minas barn blaze
Four area fire departments – New Minas, Kentville, Greenwich and Port Williams - battled a barn fire at 9330 Commercial Street in New Minas Saturday morning. New Minas received the call at 9:43 a.m. and fire chief James Redmond said Sunday the blaze was already through the structure’s roof by the time fire crews arrived. He said the cause was a stove fire in the barn, which was owned by Les Millett. A house no less than 50 feet away from the barn was saved; “never even got a scorching,” Redmond said, which is a credit to the firefighters’ combined efforts to contain the blaze. Approximately 40 firefighters worked the scene and no injuries were reported.
