Driving conditions on roads that were flooded yesterday are almost back to normal.
Sections of the North Kempt Road, Gray Road and Polly Road were impassable on Thursday.
Some shoulder repair work is keeping Department of Transportation highway crews busy this morning, with the North Kempt Road being the worst.
“We’re heading out there this morning, there’s some nasty ones in there but we should have them fixed by noon,” said DOT spokesperson Bill Thurston.
Highway 308 in Quinan was open to emergency traffic only yesterday while officials kept an eye on floodwaters. Water has receded there as well.
The Quinan Fire Department delivered jugs of water to nine families because of a concern that their wells might be contaminated.
Fire chief Alisen Zwicker says the flooding started to go down around 7 p.m.
“It looks okay today. There were a number of basements flooded, which always flood. When it comes down to the dollar damage, I don’t think it was too much,” he said.
Zwicker expressed concern about what will happen in April, a month during which most flooding takes place.
In April 2003 the homes of at least 12 families were heavily damaged due to flooding and some residents couldn’t return for months.
