Sorry I missed you last week. Between the power outages, weather and school cancellations, I didn’t get the news completed. However, I will update you on everything right now.

The card party for Feb.12 had eight tables in attendance. Geraldine Cross won the ladies’ high and Ken Mitchell won the men’s high while Jane Davidson won the low prize.

Congratulations to Ken Mitchell because I think he’s a little like my Dad; he doesn’t win very often. Oh well, at least it’s fun.

Helen Schofield won the traveler, Barb Davidson won the door prize and the 50/50 went to Doug Maxwell.

On Feb. 19, Joanne Wile won the women’s high and Leo Spinney won the men’s while Carthel Illsley won the low prize for the night. Howard Coldwell won the 50/50 this week and the traveler went to Lola Horner. Barb Davidson won the door prize again. There were nine-and-a-half tables for this eventful evening. Congratulations to everyone.

Congratulations goes to Leslie Ells, who recently joined the NSSBA (Nova Scotia Snow Boarding Association) and competed at Martock. Leslie won Gold in the Boarder Cross race Feb. 16 and Bronze in the Half Pipe competition Feb. 17th. Way to go! Leslie’s goal is to represent at the Canada Games in 2011. We wish him all the best.

Just a reminder to everyone about the fitness night that takes place Wednesday nights at the White Rock Community hall. Everyone is welcome to attend. It takes place from 7-8 p.m. and costs $2 per person. It’s fun.

Also, there’s a walking night Sundays at 6:45 p.m. The group is currently meeting at the end of the Hollow Road to walk toward New Minas.

Recently, there were a couple of accidents in the community. One involved Grace Phillips as she was driving through the Deep Hollow Road. We hope you’re feeling better and for those of you that don’t know, Grace’s car was struck and forced off the road by a hit and run driver. Luckily, Grace is okay.

Mrs. Eye (I believe) was also in an accident at the White Rock Bridge on the same day. Slippery roads played a major role. We hope that all parties involved are doing well.

Hockey season is coming to a close for some in early March. For those of you that don’t know, there will be a hockey tournament at the Acadia Arena March 9. The schedule and times are not available yet, but the tournament is named after Hannah Miller, who was a member of the QuickStart hockey program a few years back. This tournament is held each year in her memory.

Come and support the QuickStart program by cheering the players on. It’s fun to watch and you could even donate to the Hannah Miller fund, I think.

Happy birthday to Darren Whiston, who celebrates Feb. 29. Curtis Schofield is celebrating March 2 and Darlene Schofield celebrates March 3.

This summer is a summer of weddings: Carla Levy and her fiancé Shane are getting married Aug. 2; Tony Oickle and Carrie Kennedy are getting married in August as well. Christina Pick and Justin Barrows are getting married Sept. 20; and Rae Ann Schofield is getting married Oct. 25. Congratulations to everyone on their special day.

I think that’s it for this week. Have a great week; stay warm, safe and happy.
