Floodwaters are beginning to gradually recede in the Quinan area but as of Thursday afternoon Highway 308 remained open to emergency traffic only.
Eugene Doucette, coordinator for the Argyle municipality Emergency Measures Organization, is monitoring the area and has advised affected residents not to the drink water from their wells.

“Their lawns are flooded and their wells could be contaminated. They shouldn’t be drinking the water until it can be tested," he said.

EMO has brought in 32 four-litre jugs of water donated by Carl’s Store in Tusket.

Quinan Fire Department chief Alisen Zwicker says they are also keeping an eye on the situation.

“Close to 25 families are affected directly and indirectly by this,” he said.

Some businesses including Tim Hortons and MacDonalds are donating food and coffee, which is being distributed from the Quinan Fire Hall.

In April 2003 extensive flooding in Tusket Falls and Quinan caused thousands of dollars in damages.

Sections of other roads in Yarmouth County are impassable because of flooding – the North Kempt Road, Gray Road and Polly Road.
