Flooding on Highway 308 through Quinan Thursday morning made driving treacherous. The Emergency Measures Organization is monitoring the situation in case evacuation becomes necessary. Sections of other roads in Yarmouth County are impassable – the North Kempt Road, Gray Road and Polly Road.

Several roads in rural areas of Yarmouth County are underwater and have been barricaded to traffic.
Sections of the North Kempt Road, Gray Road and Polly Road are impassable.
About one kilometre of Highway 308 in Quinan is flooded but the yellow line remains visible and residents were still able to travel to and from the community Thursday morning.
Department of Transportation operations manager Don Houston says the road was passable with caution.
“We wouldn’t recommend the other three at all,” he said.
Eugene Doucette, coordinator for the Argyle municipality Emergency Measures Organization, is monitoring the situation in Quinan.
“I’ve been there since seven this morning. I don’t think there are any houses that are in danger yet, although there could be some flooded basements. It appears, although we are just guessing because the water is freezing on the pavement, that the water has started to go down a little bit. So far there are no emergencies and we don’t need to evacuate yet. We are keeping a close eye on it,” he said.
Residents are asked not to drink well water in the area as it may have become contaminated from the flooding.
