Parked vehicles impede snow removal efforts

In recent weeks, police have received several complaints from the Department of Transportation employees concerning vehicles left parked on the road during storms. These vehicles have obstructed snow removal. The RCMP wish to advise motorists that in the future, vehicles that are parked on the road and obstruct snow removal will be subject to fines and towed away, at the owners expense.

The Annapolis detachment of the RCMP responded to 57 calls for assistance during the week of February 11 through February 18. Among these were five false 911s; five false alarms; seven motor vehicle accidents, and one domestic matter.

Following are highlights of these calls:

-- February 11 at 9:30 a.m. Staff from the Department of Transportation reported that a vehicle was parked on the road and impeding snow removal in Upper Clements.

-- February 11 at 5 p.m. Department of Transportation employees reported that several vehicles parked in Clementsport were impeding snow removal.

-- February 12 at 8:46 a.m. Police were called to a traffic accident on Highway 1, near Upper Clements after a vehicle slid into a ditch. No injuries were reported.

-- February 12 at 12:30 p.m. Police received a report of a breech of undertaking in Lawrencetown.

-- February 13 at 9:40 a.m. A Bridgetown resident reported a lost wallet.

-- February 13 at 12:20 p.m. Police were called to Middleton following a complaint of property damage. Someone had spray-painted profanity on the side of a building.

-- February 13 at 12:30 p.m. Police were asked to do a well-being check on a Middleton senior. The individual was located and found to be safe.

-- February 13 at 2:44 p.m. A Granville Ferry resident was reported to have failed to appear in court.

-- February 13 at 3:48 p.m. A Clementsport resident reported property damage after a driver who was doing power-turns damaged several mailboxes.

-- February 13 at 5:10 p.m. Police received a request to locate an individual who was missing from Wilmot. A dog handler team was brought in to search for the youth, who was later located.

-- February 13 at 9 p.m. Police received a request to locate an individual who was missing from the Lawrencetown area. The individual was later located.

-- February 13 at 10:40 p.m. Police were called to a trailer fire in Deep Brook. No one was injured, but the home was destroyed. One male was arrested and was scheduled to reappear in court on February 20.

-- February 14 at 2:30 p.m. A resident turned in ammunition to be destroyed.

-- February 14 at 3:21 p.m. Police were called to a traffic accident after two cars collided near Torbrook. No injuries were reported.

-- February 14 at 4:21 p.m. A Tupperville resident reported a fraud.

-- February 14 at 10:53 p.m. A Middleton resident reported receiving threats via the Internet. The complaint was deemed to be unfounded.

-- February 15 at 3:37 a.m. A Middleton resident reported a possible break and enter after witnessing a male rummaging through a parked vehicle.

-- February 15 at 11:07 a.m. Police were called to a traffic collision in Granville Ferry. Two people were treated for minor injuries.

-- February 15 at 2:28 p.m. Police were called to a traffic accident in Wilmot after a motorist struck a vehicle that was backing out of a driveway.

-- February 15 at 3:31 p.m. Police were called to a traffic accident in Middleton after one vehicle rear-ended another. Both vehicles were extensively damaged.

-- February 15 at 10:18 A Williamston resident reported a complaint of property damage after mailboxes were damaged.

-- February 15 at 11 p.m. A Lawrencetown resident reported a disturbance. Someone was playing loud music.

-- February 16 at 9:12 a.m. A Cornwallis resident reported a hit and run. Someone had collided with the parked vehicle.

-- February 16 at 2 p.m. A Paradise resident reported seeing suspicious activity. A patrol was made and the individuals were located and spoken to.

-- February 16 at 5:36 p.m. A Bridgetown resident reported receiving harassing phone calls.

--February 17 at 1:05 a.m. Police pulled over an impaired driver in Middleton.

-- February 17 at 5:26 a.m. A Lequille resident was reported missing. The individual was later located.

-- February 17 at 1:30 p.m. A Middleton resident reported a complaint of criminal harassment.

-- February 17 at 2:36 p.m. A purse was stolen in Middleton.

-- February 17 at 8:30 p.m. A Deep Brook resident reported being threatened. The threats turned out to be part of a scam.

Crimes, or information on crimes, should be reported to the Annapolis RCMP at 665-4481 in Bridgetown and 825-2000 in Middleton. Information on crimes can also be reported to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
