Flooding in Brickton
Pictures tell the story
Flood waters began rising rapidly in the wee hours of Tuesday, Feb. 18 and by daylight several roads in the Brickton area of Annapolis County were under water as well as the new bridge in Brickton.
One home owner on the east side of the flooding woke to water in his basement at about 4 a.m. and by 10 a.m. had three sump pumps going as he tried to keep ahead of the deluge. He said he wasn't being successful.
A Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal worker was parked on the bridge monitoring the rising flood waters and soon barricades were set up to stop traffic. A detour north on Mount Hanley Road directed traffic through to the Clarence Road.
On the South end of Mount Hanley Road, water was covering the road and water rushed across to the James Frank property. The water level on the road wasn't enough to deter motorists but later warning barricades were set up on both sides of the bridge that spans the river at the bottom of the Frank property.
By Wednesday morning the flood waters had receded by only a few inches and the water covering roads was quickly turning to ice as colder temperatures prevailed.
