February 10 to February 16, 2008 continued WILE, Eleanor Jean – Centre Rawdon / Windsor, it is with great sadness that, with family by her side Mom slipped away February 11, 2008. She was the daughter of the late Arthur James and Laura Isabelle (Rafuse) Schofield. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, who had reached the milestone of 80 years. She is survived by daughters, Nina, Westlock, AB; Debbie (Barrie), Bridgetown; Sylvia (Vic Fraser), Sackville; Mona (Gordon), Sackville; Kathy (Ernie), Centre Rawdon; Brenda, Kennetcook; nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Lloyd, brothers Elmo, Edward, and Milford, sisters Alvada, Marjorie, Marion, and Edith; two grandsons David Wile and Jason Gallie and good friend Howard Ernst. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Ettinger Funeral Home, Shubenacadie, NS. Visitation 2-4 & 6-8 pm, Thursday with funeral service 2 pm, Friday, February 15 both held in St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Centre Rawdon. Family flowers only. February 10 to February 16, 2008 continued BANKS, Robert Gordon - 66, Middleton, passed away Tuesday, February 12, 2008, in Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Middleton, he was the son of late Harold and Gladys (Bowlby) Banks. In early years, Bob was employed with and later owned and operated Middleton Dry Cleaners and Launderers. Bob's life was focused around music as well as helping inspire other people to enrich their lives in various ways. He traveled to numerous communities playing with the musical groups Annapolis East String Band, Old Country, and Three Old Friends. Bob was an active member of the Emmanuel Congregational Christian Church. He is survived by his wife the former, Patricia "Pat" Hardwick; daughter, Gisele (Jerry) MacDonald, Amherst; grandchildren, Samantha and Raymond, and their father, Richard Banks, North Williamston. Visitation was held Saturday, February 16, in Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., (902) 825-3448. The funeral service was held Sunday, February, 17, in Emmanuel Congregational Christian Church, Middleton, Rev. Dr. Bill MacDougall officiated. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Middleton. February 10 to February 16, 2008 continued HURST, Josephine Ellen – 90, a long-time resident of Granville Ferry, Annapolis County, passed away Tuesday, February 12, 2008 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Dartmouth, she was a daughter of the late Richard and Josephine (Gifford) O’Hearn. She was the loving mother of son, Ronald (Martha), Windsor, Ontario; daughter, Deann (Gerald) Gomes, Mississauga, Ontario; the beloved grandmother of Melanie Gomes, Coquitlam, British Columbia; Jeremy (Connie) Gomes, Grand Valley, Ontario; Kim Hurst, Windsor, Ontario; Tara Hurst, Belleville, Ontario; Laurel (Pat) Kennedy, Belle River, Ontario; Heather Hurst, Tillsonburg, Ontario; great grandmother of Chelsea, Nevin and Jena Gomes, Sarah Hurst, Katie, Jessica and William Kennedy. She is also survived by a sister, Olive Horne, Dartmouth; nephews, David (Janice) Horne, Dartmouth; Barry (Sonia) Horne, Calgary. She was predeceased by her devoted husband, Allen. In honouring our mother’s wishes, cremation took place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville and there was no formal funeral service. She leaves her family with many, many happy and loving memories – never to be forgotten. February 10 to February 16, 2008 continued SAULNIER, Theresa Olive - 89 of Barrie Ont., and formerly of Wedgeport, Nova Scotia, died on Tuesday, February 12, 2008 at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie Ontario. Theresa was born in Wedgeport, Yarmouth County, the daughter of Levi and Merici (Boudreau) Jacquard. She is survived by her son Charles and his wife Venita of Barrie and two grandsons, Randy and Jeffery of Newmarket. She was predeceased by her husband Charles J., and her brothers Roy, Leo, Edmond, John, Basil, Existe and Robert; sisters Lottie and Mary. There was no visitation by request. The funeral mass was held at 2:00 PM, Friday, February 15 from Saint Ambrose Cathedral, 43 Albert Street, Yarmouth, Father John MacPherson officiated. She will be laid to rest next to Charles in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia at Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery in the spring. February 10 to February 16, 2008 continued Eric Allison Schofield - 81, Cambridge Station, Kings Co., passed away Tuesday, February 12, 2008, in Blandford, Lunenburg Co., in the company of friends. Born June 1, 1926, on Brooklyn Street, Kings County, he was predeceased by his parents, Gilbert and May (Borden) Schofield, and his brother, Donald Schofield (killed in the Second World War). Eric served in the Canadian Army during the Second World War, particularly in the areas of cryptography and codebreaking. He received his B.A. and M.A. (Economics) from Acadia University, and his M.P.A. (Public Administration) from Syracuse University. Eric went on to a long career with the Government of Canada, which included co-ordinating the visits of foreign dignitaries and heads of state for the Prime Minister's Office during Expo 67. He was awarded Canada's Centennial Medal for his years of distinguished public service. In his "first retirement," Eric was a tour manager for nearly 20 years, and traveled the globe with various bands of adventurers. In his later retirement, he deeply enjoyed the company of family and friends, and traveled often to spend time with them. Surviving are sister, Vera Schofield, St. John's, N.L.; brother, Dr. Wilfred Schofield, Vancouver, B.C.; nieces and nephews, Katherine Young (Rob Neilson), Janet Young Guerra (Walter Guerra), Stephen Young (Kim Pottle), Craig Young (Christine Healy), Linda Schofield (Alp Debreli), Muriel Schofield (Andy), Pamela Schofield (Kent Lewis); several grandnieces and grandnephews; good friend, June Herbert; "adopted sister", May Fry; a generous and wide spectrum of extended family and friends. Visitation for Eric took place 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Friday, February 15, in H.C. Lindsay Funeral Home, 192 Commercial St., Berwick, NS B0P 1E0, (902-538-9900). Funeral service was held 2 p.m. Saturday, February 16, in Cambridge Baptist Church, 5981 Highway 1, Cambridge Station. Rev. Garnet Parker and Rev. Dr. Judith Saunders officiated. February 10 to February 16, 2008 continued Coleen Hurlburt Clayton -1953-2008. Born in Argyle, Yarmouth County, Nova Scotia Coleen, after a courageous battle with cancer, redeemed her astral air miles peacefully at Grand River Hospital and departed to discover all that lies beyond. Cherished daughter of Lawrence and Myrtle Hurlburt of Argyle, Yarmouth County, Nova Scotia, “Special Sister” of Marg Goodwin of Dunham, Ontario and “Tiny Teen” of brother Mike of Edmonton, Alberta. Remembered always with love by her sisters, Joy of Argyle, Jan of Truro and Tracey of Belleville all of Nova Scotia. Loving Mom of Ellie Clayton and treasured “Nan” of Miguel Clayton-Camara of Kitchener, Ontario. “Miss me but, let me go.”
February 10 to February 16, 2008 continued Marion Maie Crandall – formerly of Saint John, New Brunswick and Kentville, passed away peacefully Tuesday, February 12, 2008 in Parkstone Enhanced Care Facility, Halifax. Born in Vernon Mines, Kings County, she was a daughter of the late Everett and Cora (Huntley) Crandall. She attended school in Mountain Front, Kings County and was employed with Wades Grocery in Kentville. She attended Mack Business College, Kentville and following her graduation she moved to Moncton, New Brunswick where she was employed with T. Eaton Company and Confederation Life Insurance. In the early 1970’s she moved to Saint John, New Brunswick and continued her employment with Confederation Life. She was later employed with Manpower in Saint John from where she retired in 1990. She was a member of the former Central Baptist Church and also attended Main Street Baptist, both in Saint John. Marion was a kind and charitable person, willing to help anyone in need of assistance. She enjoyed sewing, traveling, skating, reading and walking. She is survived by two sisters, Myrtis Bennett, Kentville and Joan Crandall, Halifax; a brother-in-law, Art Lockwood, Kentville; two nieces, Peggy Ricketts and Susan Collicutt; two nephews, Larry and Gerald Bennett; two aunts, Viola Metzler and Harriett Foster, several cousins, great nieces and great nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Betty (Cassidy) Lockwood. There was no visitation by family request. The funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 15, 2008 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Reverend Pamela Estey and Reverend Phil Locke officiated. Burial took place in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill, Kings County. Family flowers only by request.
