February 10 to February 16, 2008 VAUGHAN, Arthur Harden - 81, Hantsport, Hants Co., passed away peacefully Monday, February 11, 2008, in Windsor Elms Senior Citizens Home, Windsor. Arthur was born on October 17, 1926, in Bishopville, and was a son of the late James and Leora (Tracey) Vaughan. He is survived his wife of 61 years, the former Verna Tracey; son, Dale (Bonnie); daughters, Judith Vaughan, Donna (Garnet) Mason and Barbara (Bill) Mesheau; brothers, Royce (Florence), Leo (Joyce), Clyde (Mabel), and Eric (Ruth); sisters, Gwendolyn (Peter) Crane, Ella (George) Kewley, and Shirley Skipper; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Arthur was predeceased by sisters, Christine Boudreau, and Sylvia in infancy. Arthur began his working career in the Royal Reserve Army, Windsor. He then went on to work for many years at Minas Basin Pulp and Power Ltd. He was a member of the Minas Waves Seniors Group, an adherent of Hantsport Baptist Church and a member of the Country Entertainers Band. Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to Lohnes Funeral Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). Funeral service was held 2 p.m., Friday, February 15, in Hantsport Baptist Church, corner of Willow and Main streets, Hantsport, with Rev. Daniel Jamer officiating. Private family interment took place in Riverbank Cemetery, Hantsport, followed by a reception in the church gymnasium. Family flowers only. February 10 to February 16, 2008 Catherine Geraldine (Gerry) Fowlie - 89, of Kentville, passed away peacefully on Sunday February 10, 2008 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Granton Pictou Co., she was the daughter of the late Alex and Catherine (Lamey) Walker. Mrs. Fowlie was a member of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Kentville, where she devoted much of her time to volunteering for the Christian Concern Committee for 35 years ,teaching Sunday school, the Valley Cursillo Movement and was a life time member of the Catholic Woman's League (C.W.L.) She will be forever loved and greatly missed by her many family and friends. She is survived by, son, Ray, Kentville; daughter, Jamie Fowlie (Rick), brother, Joe Walker, Truro; grandchildren, Ryan, Sarah, Ian, and Evan, great grandson, Cameron Eric. Besides her parents, Gerry was predeceased by her husband Eric Fowlie, brother, Ted Walker; sisters, Mary Jane Shaw and Sadie Angus. February 10 to February 16, 2008 Blue is the color of my father’s eyes Of my father’s eyes Blue is the color of my father’s eyes Of my father’s eyes Félix Martin (the Cat) Doucet passed away just before high tide on Sunday, Feb. 10, 2008, in Digby with a view of the Annapolis Basin and the beaches where he spent a large part of his life. His wife Anna Belle, formerly Prime of Centreville, Digby County, was by his side. It takes energy, hard work and commitment to raise six children. A very capable man, Félix built his own house at 17 in New Edinburgh. For the next 60 years, he worked in a coffin factory, sold fish, dug clams, ran a clam business supplying restaurants from Digby to Barrington, lobster fished, worked as a carpenter, worked on freighters for the American Gypsum Company out of Hantsport, and finally returned to digging clams with his brother Louis before working as a janitor at Weymouth Consolidated School. In his spare time, he dug more clams and when he couldn’t fish anymore, watched his children and grandchildren dig them for him. Life began and ended with a view through and of blue. He was predeceased by brothers, Bernard, Isaac, Louis and Pierre; sisters, Claudette and Thérèse. Visitation was held Feb. 12 in Meteghan Funeral Home, with funeral Feb. 13 in St. Bernard Church, with Rev. Paul Belliveau officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery. February 10 to February 16, 2008 Nelson M. Pick – 86, of New Minas, passed away Sunday, February 10, 2008 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Wolfville, he was a son of the late Eldon and Beatrice (Harrington) Pick. He was a veteran of the Second World War, having served overseas with the West Nova Scotia Regiment and an artillery unit. Following the war, he spent his working career in farming. He was an avid walker and a former member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Dr. C. B. Lumsden Branch 74, Wolfville. He is survived by two daughters, Joyce (Russell) Best, Truro; Carol Pick (Barry Nicks), Sheffield Mills; three sons, Kenneth (Barbara), Port Williams; Ronald (Barbara), West Brooklyn; Donnie (Cheryl), St. Croix; two sisters, Annie May Regular and Rosaline Trask, both of Halifax; a brother, Winston, Wolfville; 13 grandchildren, Kevin, Jeffrey, David, Cindy, Gregory, Ronnie, Robbie, Tiffany, Glen, Glenda, Kenneth, Pam and Elliott; 20 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, the former Bessie Hunt; four sisters, Jeanette Peterson, Patsy Keating, Edith Brown and Joanne Haliburton; an infant sister; a brother, Charles. Visitation was held from 4-5 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, February 13, 2008 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 14, 2008, Reverend Charles Bull officiated. Burial took place in the Starr’s Point Cemetery. Family flowers only, by request. Born June 13, 1941 in Raynardton, Yarmouth Co., he was a son of Georgina (Pothier) Morris and the late John B. Morris. Bruce worked as a fisherman. Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife of 42 years, Shirley (Duckworth) Morris; sons, Bruce (Gaile), Yellowknife, NWT; Robert (Dawn), Manitoba, along with Robert’s former partner, Darlene; a daughter, Karen (Kenny) Rodgerson, Canaan; 4 grandchildren; brothers Phillip, Mississauga, Ont.; Richard (Wendy), Halifax; Raymie (Linda), Ontario; Mike (Ann), Paul (Donna), both of Springhaven; a sister, Diane (Ronnie) Boudreau, Springhaven. Visitation took place from 7-9 Thursday, with prayers at 8 PM, both in H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, 29 Albert Street, Yarmouth. The funeral mass was held at 11 AM, Friday, February 15 from Saint Agnes Catholic Church, Quinan, Father John MacPherson officiated. February 10 to February 16, 2008 WHYNOT, Mae Laveina - 74, of Liverpool passed away peacefully at home Monday, February 11th, 2008. Born in Liverpool she was the daughter of the late Lambert and Evelyn (Mailman) Fralic. Mae was a former employee of Radio Café Liverpool, and an Honorary member of Liverpool Firefighters Association Ladies Auxiliary as vice president and president. She along with her husband was a hobby farmer where they raised cattle and poultry. She loved baseball, bowling, music, singing and dancing. Mae is survived by her husband Clifford; daughters, Sherry of Liverpool, Tammy (Michael) Winfield of Western Head, Karen (Dwayne MacNutt) of Liverpool; sons Clifford Jr. (Alana) of Liverpool, Bill (Jane Warner) of Brooklyn, Blaine (Wendy) of Mill Village, Timmy (Michelle) of Liverpool and Colin of Kentville; 19 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; sisters, Pearl (Mark) Conrad of Western Shore, Myrtle Veinotte of Clearland and Claira (Dave) Crocker of Blue Rocks; brothers, Bud (Geneva) Mae of Lunenburg, Gordon (Bea) Smith, of Ontario, Chessey Mae of Bridgewater and Chris Mae of Lunenburg. February 10 to February 16, 2008 Banks, Russell LeeRoy - 70, of Mount Hanley, passed away Monday, February 11, 2008 in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Middleton, he was a son of the late Joseph and Annie (Caldwell) Banks. Russell worked for Irving Oil Limited, Middleton, then owned and operated Valley Burner Service for 18 years. Later he became a self employed contractor for North Mountain Woodlands. He loved walking his dogs, gardening and doing folk art. Russell loved his family dearly, especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, the former Clara Foster; daughters, Carol (Wayne Hill), Middleton, NS; Catherine (Peter Giesbrecht), Opal, AB; sons, Roy (Sandy), Wilmot; Steven (Heather), Waterville, NB; Richard and Randy, both of Mount Hanley; sister, Mae (Tom) Workman, Mount Hanley; grandchildren, Greg; Geoffrey; Chris; Rafe; Cyrus; Teila; Jaymee; Brandon; Colin; Joey; Justine; great grandchildren, Connor and Kierra; sisters-in-law, Lois Banks, Mount Hanley and Ruby Banks, Mahone Bay. February 10 to February 16, 2008 ALLEN, David Gerald - 46, Chebogue, passed away peacefully in Yarmouth Regional Health Centre on February 11, 2008, after a brief but valiant battle with cancer. He is survived by his mother, Jean Allen, Yarmouth, and was predeceased by his father, Henry in 2002. David leaves behind his loving sister, Paulette Babin (Richard Thibodeau), Chebogue, and brothers, Jim (Wendy), Yarmouth; Barry (Crystal), Apple River, Cumberland Co., and Brian (Eloise), Amherst. David will also be missed by Judy Allen and Earl Babin, who were part of his family. David will be sadly missed by his nieces, Erica and Jennifer, and his nephews, Jeff, James, Derek and Patrick. David cherished his friends and considered them a part of his family. He will be remembered by all who knew him for his kindness, which was at the centre of his being, and for his loving ways. He spent the first part of his adult life taking care of the mentally ill and more recently, disadvantaged youth. David was interested in photography and writing. In lieu of a service, a celebration of David's life will be held in May (TBA) for family and friends. Donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society.
