Harold LeRoy Gates – 90, of Canning, Kings County, passed away Saturday, February 9, 2008 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born on August 21, 1917 in Worcester, Massachusetts, he was a son of the late George and Jessie (Campbell) Gates. He moved to Port Williams at a young age and following his graduation from business school, had been employed with George A. Chase Limited for five years. On June 19, 1940, he enlisted in the R.C.A.F. and served during the Second World War for four and one half years. Upon his discharge, he had been employed as an accountant with the Town of Kentville and later worked for the United Fruit Companies. In 1946, he moved to Canning and became manager of the Maple Leaf Fruit Co-operative for over 30 years. Following his retirement, he served the Village of Canning for over six years as part-time clerk. He served on the Canning Village Commission, as chair for a period of time and was a Commissioner of the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia. He was a member of the Foundation Program Committee on Educational Matters for the Province of Nova Scotia. He was a director of the Nova Scotia Vegetable and Fruit Growers Association, the Canadian Horticultural Society and was a member of the Voluntary Economic Planning Committee in both the agricultural and transportation sectors. He was a director and chair of the Kings County Council of Boy Scouts, a trustee and later chairman of the trustees of the Cornwallis District High School, Canning and also served as chair of the Kings County Municipal School Board. He served as trustee and member of the executive of the Eastern Kings Memorial Hospital, Wolfville and trustee and chair of the Canard Cemetery Company. He was a member and served on several boards and committees of First Cornwallis Baptist Church, Canard. He joined the Wolfville Curling Club in 1954, served on several committees and held the position of president. He was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Habitant Branch No. 73, Canning. He is survived by a daughter, Judy Cohoon, Wolfville; a son, Paul (Ann), New Minas; two grandchildren, Christopher Cohoon, Brooklyn, New York and Jarred Gates, Halifax. He was predeceased by his wife of more than 63 years, the former Madalyn MacGowan. Visitation was held from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, February 12, 2008 with a Royal Canadian Legion service held at 7:00 p.m. in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. The funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 13, 2008 in the First Cornwallis Baptist Church, Reverend Peter Lohnes officiated. Burial will take place at a later date in the Canard Cemetery, Jawbone Corner, Canard. Family flowers only, by request. GEDDRY, Sophie Mary - 89, St. Alphonse, Digby Co., died Saturday, February 9, 2008, at home. Born in Lake Doucette, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Eugenie Melanson. She was always a loving mother, grandmother and wife. She is survived by five of her six children, Jennie Pitman (Ron), Chegoggin; Benita Swim (Dave), Yarmouth; Victor Deveau (Clara), Brooklyn; Robert Deveau (Judy), South Chegoggin; Florence Comeau (Cecil), St. Alphonse; daughter-in-law, Mildred Deveau-Hubbard (George), Hubbard's Point; 14 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, three great great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her first husband and father of her children, Ernest Deveau; second husband, Edmond Geddry; son, Simon Deveau; grandson, Timothy Brannen, sisters, Lizzie Deveau, Margaret Maillet, Anna Thibault and brother, Dannie Melanson. Visitation was held in Meteghan Funeral Home, Monday, Feb. 11 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass was held in St. Alphonse Church at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Interment will be in Our lady of Calvary Cemetery, Yarmouth, at a later date. Donations may be made to Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery Fund, St. Alphonse Church or any charity of choice.

BAGSHAW, Cindy P. – 49 passed away February 4, 2008 in Toronto General Hospital, Toronto, Ontario. Born in Liverpool, Queens Co., Nova Scotia she was the daughter of the late Harry and Lillian (Clattenburg) Rogers. Cindy is survived by her husband, Ronald and son, David; stepmother Leah Rogers, French Lake, NB; brothers: Norman (Wendy) Rogers, Liverpool, NS, Donald (Helen) Rogers, Kamloops, BC, David Rogers, Nunavut; stepbrothers, Richard and William, Fredericton, NB, Brian, French Lake, NB, David, Rusagonis, NS; sisters, Mary Stevens, Port Medway, NS, Cathy (Herb) Carlson, Toronto, ON, Linda (Clarence) Wolfe, Port Mouton, NS; stepsister, Rhonda, Fredericton, NB. She was predeceased by her infant son, Michael Dolliver Jr.; brothers Paul, Arnold and Bill; and stepbrother Randy. Cremation has taken place under the direction of After Care Memorial, Toronto, Ontario. Interment at a later date.

Regencenzina Emmeline Pinch (Terrasie) - 93, Waterville, Kings Co. passed away Sunday February 3, 2008, in the Grand View Manor, Berwick. Cheryl “Chookie” Jean Burrows, 60, of Windsor, passed away peacefully Monday, February 4, 2008, at home, surrounded by her family and loved ones. Born on July 1, 1947, in Windsor, Nova Scotia, she was a daughter of the late Earl and Lorna (Miller) Burrows. Cheryl was a gifted, highly respected and very dedicated teacher with the Annapolis Valley School Board for over 30 years. She loved spending time with her family, friends and especially her beloved grandchildren. She was well known for her compassion, warm hospitality, sense of humor and spontaneous wit. Chookie is survived by her companion, Bill Zinck; daughters, Natalie Pemberton (Mike Taylor), Windsor; Nicki Pemberton (Mike Haldane), Windsor; grandchildren, Dylan and Emma Jean Pemberton, Leah, Bailey and Josie Haldane; brothers, Merton (Myrna) Burrows, Terrace Bay, Ontario; Marven Burrows, Victoria, British Columbia; Wayne (Valerie) Burrows, Edmonton, Alberta; Wray (Nancy) Burrows, New Glasgow; sisters, Karen (Bob) Davis, Calgary, Alberta; Zelda Burrows, New Victoria, Cape Breton; Dolly (Butch) McEachern, Falmouth; Cathie (Gregg) Boyd, Windsor; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Cheryl was predeceased by a sister, Marley Joye in infancy. At Cheryl’s request cremation has taken place and there was no visitation. A memorial service was 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, 2008, in Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home Chapel, 194 King Street, Windsor. The Rev. Bill Gibson officiated, followed by a reception at the Lindsay Family Reception Centre. Burial will be held at a later date, in Maplewood Cemetery, Windsor. Dorothy M. Hutt - 84, London, Ontario, formerly of Grafton, Kings Co. passed away February 7, 2008 in the London Health Sciences Centre, London, Ontario. Born in White’s Corner, Kings Co. she was a daughter of the late Harry and Jennie (Hamilton) Hutt. Surviving are a sister, Mildred Mahar, Halls Harbour; brothers, Robert (Leona) Hutt, Chester Grant; Harry (Tena) Hutt, Lower Sackville. Besides her parents she was predeceased by sisters, Edith Crandall, Thelma Millett. A graveside service will take place 1:30 p.m. Saturday June 7, in the Berwick Cemetery. Rev.
