Digby girls can still qualify for basketball provincials with morning win
Digby’s Lady Mariners can’t win Regionals but Provincials aren’t out of the question yet.

The senior girls lost the opening game of the division III Regional championship tournament at Digby Regional High School on Friday night.

The Bridgewater Vikings held Digby to only four points in the first quarter and finished out the first half up 22-21.

Digby took the lead in the third quarter opening with an eight-point run, and ending with a couple quick lay ups from Jolessa Robinson to make it 43-41 Digby.

It was tied 53-53 with two minutes to go. You won’t believe this but Digby’s Kate Chute (number 55) made the score 55-55 with 55 seconds to go.

It was 57-55 with 12 seconds to go and Digby’s ball. The home team turned it over and had to foul a Bridgewater player with 5 seconds to go. She made one of her free throws. Final score 58-55 for the Vikings.

Jolessa Robinson led Digby with 23 points. Kate Chute had 9, Rebekah Cook had 8, and Lindi Daley had 7.

Nicole Brinson led Bridgewater with 31 points including an astounding five three-pointers. Sasha Benoit added 16.

The Lady Marines play again at 10 a.m. and if they win, they earn a second chance to reach Provincials through Qualifiers.
