Two arrests for questioning have been made after the body discovered in Bridgewater was confirmed to be that of 12-year old Karissa Boudreau and police are treating the case as a homicide.

After 24-hours without any charges laid the two unidentified suspects were released.

The body was discovered along the banks of the LaHave River outside of Bridgewater Saturday, Feb 9 but police at that time would not say whether the remains belonged to the young girl.

By Thursday night, two suspects were arrested for questioning by Joint Forces Investigative Team and a third suspect of interest was also questioned and released in relation to the investigation.

Police could not confirm or deny if the people in custody were the mother of Karissa and her boyfriend.

Police are again seeking the public’s help for any information that they may have.

"A lot of people are now coming forward saying we've seen Karissa here and there," said Cst. Grant Webber, investigating officer for the RCMP.

He explained that more tips are now flowing in since her body was discovered.

"It has changed because its gone from a missing persons to a homicide," he said.

The autopsy that revealed the murdered body was that of Karissa's was conducted Wednesday in Halifax.

Since her disappearance, the search for Karissa brought thousands of caring Nova Scotians to distribute her photo in hopes that she would be found. A team of Bridgewater Police investigating her disappearance and an extensive two-day search by police divers who searched the river near the site where she disappeared revealed no clues as to her whereabouts.

A winter storm had swept in the night of her disappearance and police dogs were unable to pick up a scent to track.

Police say they do not know when charges will be laid in connection to Karissa's murder but hope that questions will be answered as the investigation unfolds.
