House arrest in sleeper case
A Liverpool man well known for jumping into the Mersey River and generating a large search operation while he later slept at home will, ironically, be under house arrest for a total of one year and a day for eight, unrelated charges.
Jason Alexander Meisner, 30, pleaded guilty Oct. 23 to one obstruction of a police officer charge, for which he received 51 days, one breach of probation charge, for which he received 45 days, and six breach of undertaking charges. He received 45-day consecutives sentences for these as well. In addition, Meisner received two years probation.
He was sentenced in Liverpool Provincial Court on Feb. 8.
The charges cover the period from April to Sept. of 2007. Two of the charges were laid by the Bridgewater Police Department.
On Sept. 16, Meisner attempted to escape a Queens RCMP officer concerned with a possible breach of undertaking related to alcohol consumption was looking for him. At about 2:15 a.m., he jumped into the Mersey River off a commercial core parking lot wharf and was swept away in the current.
