Reginald Holland "Reg" Brown, 89, of Three Mile Plains, Hants County, passed away on Sunday, February 3, 2008, in the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born on June 5, 1918, in Bramber, Hants County, Nova Scotia, he was a son of the late Josiah & Margaret (Carson) Brown. Reg, served overseas in the Second World War, and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Hants County Branch No.009, Windsor. Reg worked as an engineer with the Dartmouth Shipyards before he retired. Reg is survived by his wife, the former Marilyn Kelley; son, Wayne (Jude) Brown, Meadow Bank, PEI; Dale Brown, Meadow Bank, PEI; daughters, Bonnie (Richard) Trenchard, Porters Lake; Wanda Clarke, Dartmouth; 3 stepdaughters, Karen (Ricky) Starratt, Cambridge, Hants County; Anna (Dave) Starratt, Robb, AB; Darlene (Harley) Starratt, Edson, AB; 3 step sons, Ricky (Gerry) Comeau, Bramber; Terry (Shelley) Comeau, Bramber; Eddie (Lynette) Comeau, Stoney Plain, AB; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren; 4 step great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; his former wife, Mildred. He will also be missed by his dogs, Suzie and Bruno. Reg was predeceased by his brother, Winfred; sisters, Muriel and Madge. Visitation was 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, February 5, 2008, in Lindsay's Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor, where Hants County Branch No. 009, held a Legion service at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. Funeral service was 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 6, 2008, in Lindsay's Windsor Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was at Maplewood Cemetery, Windsor, followed by a reception in the Lindsay Family Reception Centre. SAULNIER, Ruth Evangeline – 94, South East Street, Yarmouth, passed away on Sunday, February 3, 2008, in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born April 4, 1913 on Cape Sable Island, Shelburne Co., she was a daughter of the late Adelbert and Florene (Atkinson) Newell. She was a dedicated wife and mother. Surviving are her children, Ruth-Ann Smith, Saskatchewan; Florene Hennigar, Frances Edwards, Yvonne Box, Emilie (Edward) Trahan, Sandy (Marilyn), Pat (Sandra), all of Yarmouth; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Norman, Ontario; sister, Maude Smith, Barrington. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Francis Edmond Saulnier; brothers, Melbourne, Austin, Ephraim, Bruce; sisters, Isaline, Agnes, Jessie. Visitation took place from 7-9 Wednesday, with prayers at 8 PM, followed by the funeral at 2 PM, Thursday, February 7, all in H. M. Huskilson’s Memorial Chapel, 29 Albert Street, Yarmouth, Rev. ANTHONY, Ryan Evan - 25, Yarmouth, passed away suddenly at home, on February 3, 2008. Born in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, he was the youngest son of Blaine and Stella (Murphy) Anthony and a brother to Jeff. Ryan graduated from Yarmouth Consolidated Memorial High School in June 2002, and was very proud of his graduation class ring. Ryan also attended Burridge Community College. Ryan worked at Dayton Fruit and Vegetable and especially enjoyed greeting customers. Ryan also loved being downtown and socializing with friends, acquaintances and merchants alike. He was a floor hockey, bowling, soccer, and ringette team member in the Yarmouth Special Olympics, and won numerous medals. In addition to his parents and brother, Ryan is survived by his paternal grandmother, Emily Anthony, his Murphy aunts and uncles, Billy, Halifax; Margaret, Plymouth; Edward (Darlene), Pleasant Valley; Marilyn, Wedgeport; Claire, Plymouth; Thomas (Becky), Sackville; Milton (Kathryn), Wedgeport; George (Sandy), Yarmouth; Roland (Irene), Wedgeport; his Anthony aunts and uncles, Rebecca, Chebogue; Leland (Dianne), Chebogue; and Sharon, Hebron; numerous cousins and many friends. He was predeceased by his paternal grandfather, Robert Anthony, maternal grandparents, Loren and Anna Murphy and paternal uncle, Wendel Anthony. Visitation was held Tuesday February 5th from 2-4pm and 7-9pm and funeral service was held Wednesday February 6, at 11am, in Sweeney’s Funeral Chapel. Private burial to be held at a later date. Clifford Edward Patterson – 82, of Greenwich Ridge, Kings County, passed away Sunday, February 3, 2008 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born on Greenwich Ridge, he was a son of the late Wilford and Lillian (Hiltz) Patterson. He was a life-long farmer in the Greenwich area and for over 40 years was a milk producer. He spent his retirement raising beef cattle and growing hay. He had a great love for animals. He is survived by his wife and farming partner of over 60 years, the former Rosella Mary O’Brien; two sons, Edward James (Louisa), Dartmouth and Harry Wilford (Pamela), North Alton; a brother, Beverly (Mary), New Minas; four grandchildren, Laura, Kyle, Riley and Joel; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Ivan. Visitation was held from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, February 6, 2008 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 7, 2008, Reverend Doctor Bruce Matthews and Canon Russell Elliott officiating. BOATES, Keith Christopher “Bill”- 90, of Berwick, formerly of Wilmot, passed away Sunday, February 3, 2008 in Grand View Manor, Berwick. Born in Grand Prè, he was a son of the late Joseph and Abegail “Abbey” (Taylor) Boates. In his early years, Bill operated a farm in Melvern Square and later K.C. Boates Cycle Shop in Wilmot. He also served as a deacon at the Fellowship Baptist Church, Melvern Square and was a trustee for the Melvern Square School, Section 1. He is survived by his wife, the former Mary (Grant) Taylor; daughters, Margaret (Brian) Wagner, Meadowvale; Beverly (Robert) Taylor, Quispamsis, NB; Nancy (Peter) Taylor, Ottawa, ON; sons, Thomas (Jeanette), Arizona; Richard (Linda), Wilmot; Stanley (Janet), Melvern Square; David (Beverly) and Ronald (Louise), both of Wilmot; Lawrence (Janet), Nicholsville; sisters, Abegail Clark, Olive “Tommie” Boates and Pauline (George) Barker, all of Wilmot; brother, Reg, Berwick; 24 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. ERICKSON, Archie Edgar - 85, of Middleton, passed away Monday, February 4, 2008 in the Evergreen Home for Special Care, Kentville. Born in Radville, Saskatchewan, he was a son of the late David and Anna (Lindgren) Erickson. He served overseas during the Second World War; he later joined and retired from the RCAF with the rank of Captain. He was posted to St. James, MB; Saskatchewan and Greenwood during his 28 year career. After retiring, he was employed with Social Services in Halifax and later in Victoria, BC as a Social worker and membership chairperson for the British Columbia Government and Retired Employee Association. Archie loved square dance calling and was a founding member of several Square Dancing Clubs in Nova Scotia and British Columbia. He had a love for model railroads, volunteered for Meals on Wheels in British Columbia and worked for the Benevolent Society in Greenwood. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, the former Margaret “Peggy” Mills; daughters, Anna (Fred) Gatenby, Whistler, BC; Leslie (Aubrey) Morris, Melvern Square; Brenda (Denis) Prillo, Mission, BC; sister, Thelma Jacobson, Seattle, Washington; grandchildren, Dwain Spence; Jillian, Morgan and Eric Gatenby; Kimberly (Tom) Chapman; Tricia (Jon) Friesen; Erica (Brent) Foster; Bradley (Karilyn) Morris; Craig (Lori) Williams; Tia Williams (Scott Hardy) and 11 great grandchildren. Cheryl “Chookie” Jean Burrows, 60, of Windsor, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 4, 2008, at home, surrounded by her family and loved ones. Born on July 1, 1947, in Windsor, Nova Scotia, she was a daughter of the late Earl and Lorna (Miller) Burrows. Cheryl was a gifted, highly respected and very dedicated teacher with the Annapolis Valley School Board for over 30 years. She loved spending time with her family, friends and especially her beloved grandchildren. She was well known for her compassion, warm hospitality, sense of humor and spontaneous wit. Chookie is survived by her companion, Bill Zinck; daughters, Natalie Pemberton (Mike Taylor), Windsor; Nicki Pemberton (Mike Haldane), Windsor; grandchildren, Dylan and Emma Jean Pemberton, Leah, Bailey and Josie Haldane; brothers, Merton (Myrna) Burrows, Terrace Bay, Ontario; Marven Burrows, Victoria, British Columbia; Wayne (Valerie) Burrows, Edmonton, Alberta; Wray (Nancy) Burrows, New Glasgow; sisters, Karen (Bob) Davis, Calgary, Alberta; Zelda Burrows, New Victoria, Cape Breton; Dolly (Butch) McEachern, Falmouth; Cathie (Gregg) Boyd, Windsor; several nieces and nephews. Bertha Jane (Cornwall) Pearson, 95, of Concord, New Hampshire, died Feb. 4, 2008, at Havenwood Heritage Heights in Concord, N.H. Mrs. Pearson was born in Brighton on Sept. 5, 1912, a daughter of the late Harriet (Metcalf) and Beverly Cornwall. She had been a resident of Concord for 20 years and previously resided in Nashua, N.H., Ocean Park, Me., and Cape Coral, Fla. She was married for 62 years to Vaughan Wiren Pearson who worked as a purchasing agent for 37 years for the Maine Manufacturing Company in Nashua. Vaughan died in 1989 at the age of 79. For a number of years, she was an active member of First Baptist Church in Nashua, serving in the crib room, church fair, and Sunday school, and a number of other committees. She published a book on poetry and loved to read and recite poetry in a poetry group she led at Havenwood. She also received the Golden Quill Award at a ceremony in Washington, DC. Her family was her passion and she loved family outings and hosting parties for extended family and friends. She is predeceased by seven brothers and one sister. Survivors include two sons and two daughters-in-law, James Cornwall Pearson and Gail Pearson of Satellite Beach, Fla.; and Rev. Dr. John Cornwall Pearson and Rev. Junietta B. McCall of Concord, N.H.; a daughter and son-in-law, Jean and Peter Jaquith of Williston, Ver.; grandsons Jeremiah McCall, Jonathan Seth McCall, William Pearson and Peter Jaquith, Jr.; granddaughters Sandra Haynes, Dawna Moultrop and Deborah Moultrop; and numerous great-grandchildren. Visitation was held in First Baptist Church of Nashua, on Feb. 8, 2008, followed by funeral service. Burial was in Edgewood Cemetery, Nashua. Esther Mae Illsley Simpson – 91, died peacefully at Bradford House, Halifax on February 4, 2008. Much loved by her family and friends, she always had a twinkle in her eye and a helping hand for others. Esther was born at Fairview Farm in Somerset, Kings County on 11 January 1917, the daughter of Fred and Laura Illsley. She attended Provincial Normal College and graduated Acadia University with a Bachelor's Degree in Home Economics in 1941. In 1943 she married Raymond Simpson, and lived in Halifax where she taught home economics for many years in various schools. She was a member of the United Church Women at St Andrew's Church in Halifax and was an active and ardent supporter of the church. She celebrated her 50th wedding anniversary with her husband, family and friends in Merigomish, NS in 1993. She is survived by her son David, of Potomac, Maryland and his wife Patricia; daughter Joan and her husband Sandy of Halifax; son Eric and wife Ann of Nottingham, England; sister Freda of Kingston, Ontario; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband Raymond and brother Charles. Funeral service at St Andrews United Church, Halifax at 10 AM on Saturday Feb 9th. Visitation at J. A. Stewart Joseph Fancey – 73, of Cambridge, Kings County, passed away Tuesday, February 5, 2008 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Lower Cornwall, he was a son of the late George and Ruth (Lowe) Fancey. He was employed as a siding installer, carpenter, and loved to build things. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He is survived by his wife, the former Linda Joyce Brown; two daughters, Margaret Ann (Brian) Easson, Sydney; Shelley (Duane Parker) Markle, New Minas; four sons, Brian (Kit) and David (Crystal), both of Cambridge, Ontario; Rick (Susan), Colpton, Lunenburg County; Marty (Janice), Bridgetown; a sister, Pauline; four brothers, Ford, Farrell, Robert and Terry; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews He was predeceased by a son, Wayne; two sisters, Debbie and Doreen. Cremation has taken place. Visitation was held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 8, 2008 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Chaplain Ian Robb and Chaplain Christine Bigelow officiated.
