January 27 to February 2, 2008 continued ZWICKER, Laura “Annette” - 67, Tonge Hill, Hants Co. It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother on February 2, 2008, as a result of a brief and unexpected illness. Born in Burlington on February 18, 1940, she was a daughter of the late Howard and Matilda "Tilly" Brightman. She was predeceased by sisters, Lois Swinamer (Vernon) and Freda Stephens (Ronnie); and nephew, Mike Stephens. She is survived by her beloved husband, Lloyd; sons, Jack (Kerrie), Windsor; Darrell (Sue), Newmarket, N.H.; David (Andrea), Windsor; daughter, Kim (Wade), Mount Denson; granddaughters, Angie Barclay (Tom), Lindsay, Bryanna, Natasha, Danielle, Sarah; grandsons, Sam, Corey; great-granddaughter, Randi; nieces, Darlene Sanford (James) and children, Luke and Mae Ru; Lois Croman (Brian) and children, Corey and Kyle; Carla Stephens (Adrien); Joy Ann O’Hearn (Jim) and children, Laura and Jason; Sharon Myler (Raymond) and children, Tara and Raymond; nephew, David Snair. Annette graduated from Windsor Academy and Kay Anslow Business College. She worked with Evangeline Savings and Mortgage for over 35 years. She was actively involved in Windsor Minor Hockey and Figure Skating, and Windsor and District Minor Baseball. She was also an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion (Windsor). Annette adored her family, a large community of friends, and of course her cats. All that knew her will sadly miss her warm and loving nature. Arrangements have been entrusted to Lohnes Funeral Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317), where the family received visitors 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday, February 4. Funeral service was held 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 5, in Windsor United Church, 613 King St., Windsor, Rev. Bill Gibson officiating. Interment took place in Maplewood Cemetery, Windsor. A reception followed in Windsor United Church Annex. January 27 to February 2, 2008 continued Gracie Joan Lord – Born on Wednesday, January 30, 2008 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, Gracie was received into God’s loving embrace as she died on Friday, February 1, 2008 in the IWK Health Centre, Halifax. Gracie was the precious infant daughter of Erin Michelle (Shepherd) Lord and Robert John Lord and beloved sister of Cody Robert Lord and Zoe Elizabeth Joyce Lord all of Wallbrook, Kings County. Gracie will be forever cherished by maternal grandparents, Elizabeth (Terry) Deveau, Halifax and James (Dale) Shepherd, Granville Ferry; paternal grandparents, Sandra Virginia and John William “Jack” Lord, Kentville; maternal great-grandparents, Harold and Joan Dunnington, Granville Centre. Gracie is also remembered in prayer by many aunts, uncles and cousins. Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. Monday, February 4, 2008 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 5, 2008, Reverend Elaine Walcott officiated. January 27 to February 2, 2008 continued Alan Francis Duggan - 84, of 1024 Scott Drive, Kentville passed away Wednesday, January 30, 2008, in his home. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late John E. and Adelaide B. (Johnstone) Duggan. Alan was educated in Oxford Street School, Halifax and then attended St. Mary’s College (now university). He joined the RCAF during World War II and after the war attended McGill University and later Michigan State University. Alan joined the staff of the Halifax Herald where he became advertising manager & later became a Real Estate Broker in Halifax & Dartmouth areas. He was then transferred to the Valley where he was the overseer of the construction of the County Fair Mall in New Minas. After retiring, Alan purchased a cottage in Prince Edward Island where he and his wife, Phyllis spent many great summers with family and relatives. When health no longer permitted the upkeep of the cottage it was sold and then they lived in P.E.I. permanently for four years where they met some dear friends with whom they still keep in contact. Alan is survived by his wife the former, Phyllis I. Thompson; son, Lloyd Edward, Halifax; daughter, Lisa Bette (Bradley) Crowell, Kentville; grand daughters: Ashley Crowell and Emma Crowell; brother, Donald Laird and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, John Remington. Visitation was held 7-9 p.m. Friday , February 1, 2008 & and the funeral service was held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 2, 2008 both from the Kingsway Assembly, 242 Belcher St. Kentville. Pastor Robert Cross and Pastor Terry Penny officiating. Everyone was invited to a reception in the church hall following the service. Interment will be at a later date in the Peters Road Cemetery, Peters Road, P.E.I. Family flowers only by request. Donations in his memory may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia. January 27 to February 2, 2008 continued Elizabeth Irene Lloyd - May 3, 1923 – January 30, 2008. It is with great sorrow we announce the peaceful passing of Libby on Wednesday, January 30, 2008. Predeceased by her husband Harry in September 2000, her parents Nellie and Gordon Richardson, siblings Albert, Arthur, Cecil and Roberta. Survived by sons Phillip and Richard, seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Also her sisters Brenda, Kathleen, Evelyn, Florence and brother Karl, living in Nova Scotia. Born at Pleasant Point, Nova Scotia, Libby was the sixth child in a family of ten. She moved to Prince Rupert BC in 1943, to join Harry who was a commercial fisherman. Libby remained in the family home, until moving to Victoria in May of 2006. She enjoyed life with her family and friends and will be sadly missed. Her door was always open to share a meal and a game of cards. She will be remembered as a loving Mother, Grandmother and a loyal friend. A memorial service was held Monday February 4th at 2:00 pm at Sequoia Gardens Memorial, 4665 Falaise Drive, Victoria. Donations in her memory to a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
January 27 to February 2, 2008 continued Robert Anthony Douglas O’Flaherty - 66 of Digby, N.S. passed away, with his family at his side, in the V.G. site QE II , Halifax on Thursday, January 31, 2008 at 12:15 p.m. Born in Verdun, Quebec, he was the son of the late Roy & Violet (Laming) Flaherty. He loved his family, friends, all children and animals. Robert is survived by his brother, Roy; his former wife, Diane; his children, Ross, Colleen and Karen; their spouses and his grandchildren: Mitchell and Danielle; Erin, Allison and Aiden; Emily and Connor. Also surviving him are his favourite nieces: Gail, Donna and Rosemary; nephew, Patrick and numerous other well loved nieces and nephews. Best friends Andy & Helen will also be grieving with us. Robert was predeceased by his brothers: Phillip & Fred. Visitation was held from 7-9 p.m. Saturday and 12-2 p.m. Sunday both in the Annapolis Valley Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr. (Exit 14), Coldbrook. Funeral service was held 1:00 p.m. Monday from the Culloden Baptist Church, Culloden, Digby Co. Rev. Nathan Waterman officiated. Interment in Culloden Church Cemetery. January 27 to February 2, 2008 continued CURRIE, David Edward – 66, of Kingston, NS passed away Friday, February 1, 2008 at home. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Lesley and Minnie (Willman) Currie. David was a retired stationary engineer with Britex. He also had served in the Royal Canadian Navy and later transferred to the Royal Canadian Air Force. David enjoyed raising Black Angus cattle and showing them in various exhibitions. He had a great love for animals. He enjoyed fishing and gardening and loved his computer and the internet. David was a very friendly person and enjoyed doing his errands and socializing. He is survived by his wife of 25 years the former Connie (Marshall) Gidney, Kingston; daughters, Caroline, Brockville, ON; Heather, St. Catharines, ON; Melanie (Rick Acker), Lawrencetown; Susan (Mike) Fritz, Cold Lake, AB; sisters, Sheila Dickson, Halifax; Glenda (Doug) Holmes, Dartmouth; 9 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. He was predeceased by his brothers, Frederick William; Leslie and grandson, Kyle Beaton. Cremation has taken place. By request, there was no visitation. Medal with N.A.T.O.) peacefully, with his family by his side, at the Belleville General Hospital on Saturday February 2, 2008. Harold Slade, of Belleville, and formerly of Glace Bay and Falmouth , Nova Scotia, in his 72nd year. Son of the late William and Pearl (nee MacKay). Beloved husband for 54 years of Mary Catherine Slade (nee Beaver). Dear father of Pearl Trubridge of Belleville, Leonard Slade of Mulgrave Nova Scotia, Doug Slade (Eileen) of Stirling, and David Slade (Margaret) of Frederickton New Brunswick. Survived by his sisters Florence Bellows, Dolena McNeil (Jack), Lila Campbell (Frank), and by brothers Melvin Slade (Donna), Earl Slade (Sharon), Allister Slade (Edie), and Philip Slade. Harold was predeceased by several other sisters and brothers. Loved by his grandchildren Stacey, Rebecca, Sandy,Kaitlyn, Aaron, Kayla, Jean and Marc. Harold was with the Corp of Commissionaires in Halifax and Kingston, and operated a convenience store in Falmouth Nova Scotia for ten years. Born in Canso, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Martha Kavanaugh. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, homemaker and friend. She is survived by two daughters, Martha (Steven) Cooper, Georgia, USA; Lillian Girroir (Dave Steele), West Glenmont; a son, Peter, Saskatoon; a sister, Annie Rhuland, Lunenburg, two grandchildren, Michelle Webster and Jennifer MacFarlane; three great grandchildren, Noah MacFarlane, Reghan and Hazen Murray; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Pierre Arthur “Art”; two sisters, Margaret and Roberta; a brother, Bud. Visitation was held from 7-9 p.m. Monday, February 4, 2008 with prayers held at 8:30 p.m. in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. January 27 to February 2, 2008 continued Emma Mae Lister – 103, of Evergreen Home for Special Care, Kentville, formerly of Wedgewood House, Kentville, passed away Saturday, February 2, 2008 in the home. Born in York Mills, New Brunswick, she was a daughter of the late Marshall and Elizabeth (Brown) Gass. She was a member of the United Church of St. Paul and St. Stephen, Kentville, where she had been active with the United Church Women. She was also a member of the Kentville New Horizon’s Seniors Group. She enjoyed knitting, reading and cooking. She is survived by two sons, Ronald (Lois), Lawrencetown, Annapolis County; Wayne (Jean), Elmsdale; four grandchildren, Dan (Betty), Wolfville; Randy (Gaynor), Wales, UK; Scott (Sara), Halifax; Karen Lister (Rami Saaloukeh), Wolfville; a great granddaughter, Charlotte Lister, Wales. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her husband, Myles, in 1989; seven brothers, Ernest, Harry, Milford, Norman, Ward, Alden and Oswald; two sisters, Faye and Hazel. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. Visitation was held from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 3:00 p.m. Monday, February 4, 2008 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Reverend Doctor Randy Crozsman officiated. Born in Leeds, England, she was a daughter of the late James and Maizo (Wells) Joy. She had been employed for 28 years as a cook with the former Blanchard Fraser Memorial Hospital, Kentville. Mae was a member of the Coldbrook Baptist Church and a member of the High Tide Drifters. She is survived by two granddaughters, Barbara Adams, Billtown and Kathleen (Charles) Oikle, Coldbrook; four great grandchildren, Carolyn Creamer, Amanda, Ashley and Amberlee Adams; two sisters-in-law, Muriel Joy, Dartmouth and Hilda Cullen, Trenton, Ontario; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 72 years, Robert “Bob” Greene; two daughters, Carol (Blenus) Best and Kathleen Greene; three sisters, Ann, Alice and Kay; four brothers, Doug, Bill, Tom and Percy. Visitation was held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 5, 2008 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Reverend Robert Billings officiated.
