The snowy weather didn’t prevent the Parish Hall from filling and refilling as local residents and those from away came to enjoy the pancakes, sausages and pie at the annual St. John’s Anglican Church Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper Feb. 5.

Choir members and others of the congregation were kept busy making the pancakes and sausage, serving the food and washing dishes. Diners headed to the back table to choose from a wide variety of the tasty desserts with which the pie ladies and gentleman kept the table stocked.

The Port Williams Seniors’ Club is having an RCMP officer speak on the topic of being safe in your home. It will take place in the Multipurpose Room of the Community Centre Tues., Feb. 12 at 2 p.m. All interested are invited to attend. Refreshments will be served.

The next meeting of the Port Williams Health Auxiliary will be held Feb. 12 at 7 p.m. downstairs in the Port Williams Baptist Church. After the business meeting, an auction will be held with monies received going toward the Pain Pump Fund.

Members are encouraged to bring in any items they wish to donate; it could be something received at Christmas that they don't need or any other item they have at home they think might be of interest to other members.

Baking is always a good seller, too! Everyone is invited to come and join in our fun.

The next Soup and Chowder Luncheon at the United Baptist Church will be held Wed., Feb. 13 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The menu includes corn chowder and hamburg soup, rolls, tea, coffee and dessert. Free will offering. Sponsored by the Loyal Workers. Take-outs will be available by calling 542-3012.

The February event of the year-long celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Murdoch C. Smith Memorial Library will be a Babies and Books Jamboree! It will take place at the library Wed., Feb. 27 from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Please register in advance (limit 15 babies) by calling 542-3005 or through the library website www.valleylibrary.ca).

The program is designed for babies up to two years, but older siblings are welcome to attend. Juice and cookies will be served and every baby will be given a new book.

February is Food for Fines month at the Annapolis Valley Regional Library! For every item of non-perishable food donated to the library, up to $5 in overdue fines* will be forgiven. Food donations will go to a Feed Nova Scotia member agency food bank serving that library’s community. (*For fines only.)

This program does not apply to lost book fees, damaged materials or other misc. fees such as printing or photocopying.

The Port Williams Recreation Committee invites families to come skating at the rink on Saturday nights during February (9, 16, 23) from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Music will add to the enjoyment and free hot chocolate will be served.

There will be a Variety Show at the Community Centre on Sat. Feb. 23 at 7 p.m. featuring Ken Best & the Silverado Band, Harold Hunt, Hy Country, with sound by Dave Arenburg. Admission is $5. There will be a canteen and 50/50 draw. Come and enjoy an evening of good music!! Proceeds for the Lions Club's community service projects.

AFRUBO 2 Coffee House will be held at the Baptist Church in Lockwood Hall Fri., March 7 from 7-9:30 p.m. There will be stories of Kenya told by James and Tracy Churchill; Cuba told by Carol and Ron Buckley; Niger told by Trudy Naugler; and of local outreach programs.

There will be music provided by a number of local artists, coffee, treats and prizes. Freewill offering to cover expenses. Come relax and enjoy.

Anglican Church: On the first five Sundays of Lent, Choral Evensong will be offered at 4 p.m. at the church followed by a reception at the Rectory.

On the Second Sunday of Lent the choir of King's College Chapel, Halifax, will offer Evensong under the direction of Paul Halley, the winner of five Grammy Awards for his contributions as writer and performer on recordings by the Paul Winter Consort.

Paul was Director of Music of The Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City for 13 years. He moved recently to Halifax to become Director of Chapel Music at the University of King's College, Director of Music at St. George's Church, and University Musician at the Atlantic School of Theology.

The Rev'd Dr. Gary Thorne, chaplain at Dalhousie and Kings and priest in charge of King's chapel, will preach.

Baptist Church: The potluck supper and annual business meeting will be held Thurs., Feb. 21, with the supper being held at 5:30 p.m. followed by the annual meeting at 6:30 p.m.

The “Inn from the Cold” service runs from each Wednesday until the end of March and needs volunteers. If you can help, contact Jean Leung at 542-5415.
