Happy Valentine’s week everyone. Remember to take the time to show your loved ones how special they are.

It doesn’t require money to do so, either. Try giving your time to them, like giving them a back massage, foot massage or watching a nice movie together. Gifts are nice, but it’s the gift of thoughtfulness that’s really nice, I think.

The card party Feb. 5 had a bit smaller crowd (with six tables) due to the weather, but all in all, players still had lots of fun. Peter Allen won the men’s high and Cassie Green the women’s high. The low went to Helen Schofield. Joanne Wile won the door prize, Audrey Keddy won the traveler and the 50/50 went to Barb Bishop.

Feb. 6 was another eventful night at the White Rock Hall with the start of the fitness night. It takes place from 7-8 p.m. and everyone is included: male, female, both young and younger (no one likes to be called old).

For $2 you can exercise among friends and have fun, too. I went and it was fun. I would say there was close to 20 people there.

I didn’t get to catch the instructor’s name, but she was very nice. This fitness night will take place every Wednesday. There is also a walking night Sundays at 6:45 p.m. Everyone meets at Andy’s Tire at the end of the Hollow road and walks to New Minas. Everyone is welcome to attend.

There is a Gaspereau soccer meeting March 4 at 7 p.m. in the school library. There will be discussions about coaches, registration and new policies. Everyone interested is welcome to attend.

Any questions, phone Darlene Croft 542-1057 or Joanne Levy 542-2616.

There is also a yoga class being offered at the Gaspereau School. If you’re interested in joining in, contact Gaspereau Rec at 542-0357.

Primary registration for Gaspereau Elementary will be held April 7, 2008. If your child is turning five before Dec. 31, 2008 you should contact the school at 542-6090. Start getting ready for the world of school.

Upcoming events for the Black River community hall include a Pie Social/Games night to be held Feb. 16 from 7-9 p.m. Bring your pies. Extra pies will be auctioned off after the games and snacking are finished.

There will be a free will offering for Lenly and Joan Atwell. Everyone is welcome to attend, both young and old.

Every Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. there is square and line dancing at the Black River Hall. If the fitness night isn’t for you, maybe dancing is.

A Ukrainian Easter Egg-Making course will be held March 4 and 6 at the Black River Hall from 7-9 p.m. Course is free.

If you want to know how to make Easter eggs, this is the place to be. Instructor is Judy Levy.

March Break is coming and there are so many things happening. Hockey tournaments, hockey camps and Thursday, March 13, from 7-10 p.m., there will be a kids’ night for ages 12-17. Contact Nellie at 542-5134 for more information.

Congratulations to Gordon and Marie Spinney on their wedding anniversary. Happy birthday to Samantha Gertridge, who celebrated Feb. 5. Rita Spinney celebrated Feb. 6 and Jennifer Bigelow Feb. 7.

Happy birthday to my nephew, Tony Oickle, who will celebrate on the 17th. Feb. 18 is Lorna Pick’s birthday and Carl Levy celebrates Feb. 19. Carl’s daughter Tara, who is in the States, celebrates on the 17th and Julie Ann Levy celebrates on the 20th.

My neighbour, Gerald Griffin, will celebrate his 69th birthday this month as well; happy birthday. For anyone that is not mentioned, best wishes for a wonderful day.

Well, this is it for now. I will talk with you all again next week. Drive safely and stay warm.
