Taxi fares rise
Taxi fares are set to rise in Digby.
Digby town council voted to accept a new fare schedule effective Monday, Feb. 11.
Trips within town will jump from $6 to $7.
“The rationale for this increase is very evident given the growing economic pressures and the costs of operating that this industry is facing, and has faced since its last increase four years ago,” wrote special constable Richard Parry when recommending the fare increase to council.
In plainer English, the rising price of gas is behind the increase.
A trip to Halifax will now cost $300 instead of $280 (up seven per cent), while going to Yarmouth will jump 14 per cent from $110 to $125.
Bear River will rise to $22, the ferry terminal will cost $12, and East Ferry will be $63.
Culloden, which used to be just $11, will now vary from $13 to $18.
A complete list of fares must be posted in every taxi licensed in Digby.
