Top-level tramp, tumbling talent at Valley meet
The Valley’s Rainbow Riders hosted a trampoline and tumbling competition January 19 in Greenwood.

Fifty-five competitors registeres from the host Rainbow Riders, Greenwood’s Annapolis Valley Gymastics Academy, the Dartmouth Titans, the Cobequid Spartans (Truro) and the Bridgewater Kippers. Regional, provincial and national skill levels were apparent.

Three of the judges, from the Titans and Kippers - accomplished power tumblers and still competitors themselves - did a demonstration for those in attendance.

Tumbling

Regional 1 ( non-competitive): -the gymnasts in this category are judged based on accepted standards for their level. They are not ranked in comparison with each other. The following youth are from Rainbow Riders and all placed third: Grace MacDermott, Miranda Taylor, Shelby Prost, Leah Vidito, Hannah McGean, Sheldon McGean, Bryden Broussard. The following youth are all from AVGA and also placed third: Britney Markey-Peach, Kelly Dawe, Audrey Duquette, Jessica Ryan.

Provincial D – female: 1st – Emily Holland (RR), 5th – Breanne Markey-Peach (AVGA), 6th – Krista Kleemann (RR), 7th – Jessica Dort (RR), 8th – Lauren Prost (RR), 9th – Kayla Salsman (RR), 10th – Claire MacCormick (RR)

Provincial C 12 & under – female: 1st – Rachel Holland (RR), 2nd – Nicole Verstichelen (RR), 4th – Katie Currie (RR), 5th – Ceilidh McGean (RR)

Provincial C 13 & over – female: 2nd – Vicoria Decker (AVGA)

Provincial B – female: 2nd – Sarah Calder (RR)

Provincial B – male: 1st – Graham Killen (RR)

Trampoline

Regional 1 (non-competitive): The following youth are from RR and placed third in their two passes: Leah Vidito, Hannah McGean, Shelby Prost, Bryden Broussard. The following youth from the AVGA placed third in their two passes: Audrey Duquette, Jessica Ryan. Kelly Dawe placed second in one pass and third in her other pass.

Confirmed competitions for the rest of the season include the Sackville Taiso Cup February 8 to 10 in Lower Sackville - artistic meet; trampoline and tumbling, hosted by the Bridgewater Kippers February 17; artistic, trampoline and DMT at Dartmouth Titans, Feb 29 to March 2; the Amherst Aeriels Invitational March 8 to 9, artistic. Provincials will be in April.

The Eastern Canadian Championships for both artistic and T & T will be held in Longueil, Quebec May 9 to 11. Some Valley gymnasts have qualifying scores and will go - as long as they remain in the top eight in N.S in their categories.

Johanna Wamboldt from the Rainbow Riders will travel to Calgary in June for nationals in trampoline.
