Ross Creek Centre for the Arts: Family Art Sunday returns Sun., Feb. 3 from 1-4 p.m. Shift your creativity in high gear with another family friendly day.
This month’s projects are inspired by Les Newman’s work that is on display in the professional gallery. Volunteers and professionals will be on hand to assist with a variety of activities. Admission is by a suggested donation of $5 per child or $15 per family.
March Break Arts Camps at Ross Creek: Registrations are now being accepted for teens and children’s programs that include DJing, hip hop, visual art, theatre, nature and more.
School trip programs at Ross Creek are now in full swing for elementary and senior high students. Programs are taught by professional artists and elders and will explore everything from visual arts, music, and theatre to Aboriginal Arts and Culture. Bus service is available.
Glooscap Elementary School: There will be a school assembly Tues., Jan. 29 and another Tues., Feb. 12.
Skating Program: Skating will take place from January through March on Mondays and Fridays. All students are expected to take part in this program.
All students in Grades P-5 are required to wear a CSA-approved helmet. Skates and helmets are available from the school if needed.
Parental help with tying skates is appreciated, but parents are not allowed on the ice in their boots. Transporting skates on the bus is permitted if they’re equipped with guards or carried in a padded bag.
Northeast Kings Educational Centre believes in the importance of keeping students mentally and physically active throughout the year.
Winter activities. The skating rink has been booked twice a week from now ‘til March break. Classes have also been out snowshoeing and are expected to get out several more times throughout the winter.
Mrs. Cameron’s Family Studies department is seeking donations of any colour or type thread for sewing projects.
Ms. Brothers’ English department is looking for magazines suitable for classroom use like Canadian Living and Chatelaine with subject matter pertaining to: food and recipes, parenting, cars, wildlife, and sports.
NKEC Photo Club is a club for students from Grades 9-12 and any adults wanting to learn about "old school" photography. Members are asked to find a SLR film camera and save your money for film and paper.
How to process film, develop prints and take artistic black and white photos will be explored. Contact Mr. Craan at the school for details.
Music Parents’ Association general meeting will be held Tues., Jan. 29 at 7 p.m. in the library. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Senior High exams are slated for Tues., Jan. 29 through Fri., Feb. 1. First semester course textbooks should also be returned.
Middle School student-led conferences will be held Thurs., Jan. 31 by appointment, beginning at 6:30-8:30 p.m. This is an excellent opportunity to view your daughter or son’s portfolio of work samples, to compare your child’s work from their first trimester and look at the goals and achievements your child has set.
Canning Legion: Wednesday evening jam sessions from 7-10 p.m. are open to anyone who enjoys music. Bring a musical instrument and join in or just sit and enjoy the evening. Everyone is welcome to attend. There will be a freewill offering and canteen available. For further information contact 582-7246.
Also at the Legion, a fun-filled evening with karaoke and Denny Myles Sat., Feb. 2 from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. There will be a freewill offering with door prizes and a 50/50 draw.
A soup and chowder luncheon will be held Sat., Feb. 2 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Lloyd Memorial Centre, Kingsport. The cost of $6.50 includes soup, rolls, dessert, tea and coffee.
Bookmobile returns to the Canning Lions Hall on Tues., Feb. 5 at 7- 8 p.m.
There will also be a benefit for Mabel Tupper and Daniel Huntley Sun., Feb. 24 at the Canning Legion from 1-5 p.m. Come out and enjoy an afternoon of musical entertainment, along with a pie/dessert auction and a 50/50 draw.
Everyone is welcome to attend with the proceeds going toward the care and recovery of Mabel and Daniel, who were involved in an automobile accident Nov. 14 that left them with extensive injuries and lengthy rehabilitations.
