Guests of Falmouth’s Avonside Motel called the Windsor Fire Department just after midnight Wednesday, Jan. 23 to report smoke.

Five of the 12 affected units were occupied and all occupants escaped unharmed. Firefighters forced entry to the other units and office and found the source of the smoke to be an oil furnace fire in a basement section of the building.

The fire was extinguished quickly and smoke-ejected from the affected areas. Displaced occupants were relocated to another detached section of the complex.

Fire damage was contained to the area around the furnace, but the majority of the 12-section unit, as well as the office within it, suffered smoke damage. No injuries were reported.
