Medical distress apparent cause of New Minas van crash

Sgt. Rich Walkinshaw, RCMP Annapolis Valley Traffic Services, says it appears a single-vehicle van crash on Prospect Road in New Minas prior to 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17 that involved a fatality occurred due to the driver suffering some sort of medical distress. However, the driver did not perish as a result of the crash. The individual was transported by ambulance to hospital and succumbed to the medical distress sometime after being removed from the scene. Walkinshaw said speed was not a factor. The crash occurred in a 50 km/h zone. He said police wouldn’t know the exact circumstances until they heard from the medical examiner’s office.
