White Rock news

Hello everyone and happy 2008. Hasn’t the weather been lovely lately?
The January thaw came just when I had planned a family coasting party so, of course, that was postponed. I’m positive, though, there will be more snow so we can go soon.
Ha-ha! The snow is back. That didn’t take long.
I hope everyone is driving safe and sensibly in the bad weather or even just staying home. There are very few things worth risking your safety.
I haven’t submitted any news for a while basically because of the holidays. It was busy for everyone with the shopping, cooking and visiting. But now it’s back to the routine. The children are back to school and the adults are back to work.
If you’re anything like me, you had just enough days off over the holidays to make you not want to go back to work.
Well, with the new year, there are more card parties and with more card parties there are more winners. The card parties started Jan. 8 with a total of nine-and-a-half tables in attendance. Loyla Horner won the women’s high while Bud Pinch won the high men’s title. Laurie Garby won the low for the evening.
The door prize went to Kathy Green. Audrey Keddy won the traveler and the 50/50 went to Geraldine Cross.
The card party for Jan. 15 was a little smaller in attendance with four-and-a-half tables, but considering the weather for the evening, it wasn’t bad. Barb Mitchell won the women’s high and John Griffith the men’s high prize. Ken Long won the low prize for the night and Jean Spinney the door prize. The traveler prize didn’t go this week.
The shock of the evening was the 50/50 prizewinner – my Dad – Reg Pick won it. I was beginning to think his name would never enter the card party news. Congratulations to all the winners. I’m sure everyone had fun.
Now for the birthday list, which is a little bit longer this time. Happy belated birthday wishes go out to my sister Lynn Sanford, who celebrated Jan. 2; Brad Schofield Jan. 6; Jim McInnis Jan. 7. Cody Pick celebrated his ninth birthday Jan. 8; Ryan Oickle and Devin Pick celebrated Jan. 11; Elaine Schofield Jan. 15; and Richard Pick celebrated Jan. 16.
Branden Schofield celebrated his eighth birthday Jan. 17; Sandra Cudmore Jan. 19; and Janice Pick will celebrate Jan. 26.
Congratulations and best wishes go out to Gordon and Phyllis Young, who are celebrating their 66th wedding anniversary Jan. 28.
For those of you who haven’t been around the lake lately, there is a big change with the view. There have been numerous amounts of trees cut and trucked away. I haven’t actually been by to see it lately, but you can hear the equipment working from my yard. I hope they’re responsible and replant for the future forest.
Don’t forget about the community meeting on the last Wednesday evening of the month. Everyone is welcome.
I hope people will contact me with more interesting news so it will be busy with lots to read. If I have forgotten anything, I’m sorry. I’ll try to put it in next week.
Have fun and be happy.
