December 30, 2007 to January 5, 2008 continued Murray Oakes Baxter, 78, Digby, passed away peacefully Thursday, Jan. 3, 2008, in Tideview Terrace, Digby. Born in Digby, he was the son of the late John and Alice (Sanderson) Baxter. As a young man, Murray enjoyed sports, especially hockey with his friends on Theriault’s pond in the south end of town. During his working years, Murray was employed at The Digby Courier, where he was a linotype operator and later became foreman. Following retirement he served as weekend guard at the Digby Lock up. In the formative years of the Digby Sea Cadets, Murray served as an officer. During this time they experienced traveling to various places including one summer to Esquimalt, B.C. He was a member of the Digby Volunteer Fire Department for a number of years and played hockey for its team. Murray was a member of Trinity Anglican Church, Digby, where he was a choir member. Murray is survived by his loving wife of over 55 years, Margaret (‘Peggy’ Rankine), Digby; sons, James (Sarah), Winnipeg; Bruce (Laura), Oromocto; grandchildren, Jamie and Margaret, Winnipeg; Matthew, Oromocto; Becky and Stacey, Hoyt, N.B.; Graham. Dayton, Ohio, U.S.A.; Nicole Lewis, Charlottetown; two great-grandchildren, Gage and Noah, Hoyt N.B.; sisters, Barbara Kaulback, Digby; Florence (Harry) Prosser, Tumbler Ridge, B.C.; half-sisters, Emma (Bill) Brown, North Kingston; Virginia Faulkner and Mae (Robert) Munroe, both of Musquodoboit Harbour; and two nieces. He was predeceased by two infant brothers, Robert and Henry; his two oldest sons Murray and Graham; half-sister, Eileen Tupling. Family visitation was held Tuesday, Jan. 8, and public visitation was Jan. 9 in Jayne’s Funeral Home. Funeral service was held Thursday, Jan. 10, in Jayne’s Funeral Home, Digby, with Rev. Donald Robertson officiating. Interment in Forest Hills Cemetery. Donations may be made in Murray’s memory to the Canadian Diabetes Association.

December 30, 2007 to January 5, 2008 continued MILLER, Neil Eldon, 53, of Dartmouth, a native of Digby, died Jan. 5, 2008. Funeral Jan. 10 in Acaciaville United Baptist Church, Acaciaville. Burial in Maple Wood Cemetery.
December 30, 2007 to January 5, 2008 continued SHAW, Eugene Reginald (‘Nunnie’), 83, of Digby, died Jan. 4, 2008, in Digby General Hospital. Funeral Jan. 9 in Jayne’s Funeral Home, Digby, with burial in All Saints Anglican Cemetery, Rossway.
