However, this is one more than during the last provincial election as the candidate at that time was forced to withdraw due to health reasons.
Region of Queens Municipality Counc. Wayne Henley has been on council for 15 years.
This will be his first time running provincially.
“I have been a solid supporter for years,” he proclaims; “it’s just something I have been longing to do.”
If elected, one of the first items on his agenda is upgrading Highway 103, especially from Port Mouton to the Shelburne Co. line, he adds.
He also wants to help attract more development into the riding of Queens. He says he will release a detailed platform if he receives the Liberal nod.
Queens Liberal Association President, Allan AuCoin says other candidates could still run for the nomination.
“A person can be nominated up to the day of the nomination meeting.”
He adds, “Wayne is a very good candidate.”
Registration is at 2 p.m. Nova Scotia Liberal Party Leader Stephen McNeil is the guestspeaker. South Shore-St. Margarets federal candidate, Dr. Bill Smith is expected to attend as well.
“It should be interesting,” states AuCoin, adding, “I think it’s a sign we’re on the rebound in Queens and that we’re very enthused with the new provincial leader,” says AuCoin.
