Palliative Care Training

January (All Month) Do you have a few spare hours a month to volunteer with Mid Valley Palliative Care Services? We will be operating training sessions for new volunteers beginning in January. For more information, call David Sanford at 825-4994.

1-on-1 Computer Tutorials

January (All Month) Free basic computer tutorials at the Annapolis Royal Library. Register for a session by calling the library during open hours, 532-2226.

Lunchtime Snowshoe Club

January Meet at the French Basin Trail on Wednesdays around 12:15 p.m. and go snowshoeing as part of your lunch break. Bring your own snowshoes or borrow a pair of ours. Every Wednesday until March 27, weather permitting. For More information call Brian at 532-3144

VON Lunch Bunch

January 17 Our first Lunch Bunch for 2008 in Annapolis Royal will be held on January 17 At the St. George & St. Andrew United Church. Bring a friend and join us for good food, pleasant conversation and entertainment.

Nordic Walking Workshop

Big breakfast

January 19 Come for breakfast at the Middleton Curling Club on 6 King St., Middleton from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m. A community favorite.

Jigs Dinner

January 19 Come out to a Jigs Dinner at the Hillsburn 4-H Hall starting at 4:30 p.m. Menu includes cabbage, carrots, turnip, potatoes, ham and gingerbread. Price is $7 per person.

Chinese Auction

January 19 A Chinese Auction will be held at the Wilmot Christian Fellowship Centre on January 19 (storm date Jan. 26). Doors open at 9 a.m. Draws start at 1:30 p.m. Mostly new items. Names will be recorded at the door. Canteen on site. Located at the corner of the Dodge Road and Highway 1 Wilmot.

Special Brunch

January 20 Special Brunch at 12, noon in St. Monica’s Church, Middleton. The brunch is in support of the Annapolis East Elementary School Breakfast Program. Only $4. Older Adult Fitness

January 21 A fun fitness class that will get you moving, stretching and feeling stonger. Two classes are being offered; Staying Active (9:30 – 10:30 a.m.) and Getting Started (10:45 – 11:45 a.m.), Mondays & Fridays, January 21 to April 4, Middleton Fire Hall. The fee is $45. Funds for Fuel

January 21 Funds for Fuel" bridge party, Monday, Jan. 21, 1:15 p.m. at Macdonald Museum, Middleton. Come out for a fun afternoon and support your museum. Cost $3 per person. Light refreshments provided. Call 825-6116 for details.

Info Session

January 22 The Bear River & Area Community Health Clinic welcomes Anne Urquhart, Clinical Therapist with Addiction Services for Southwest Nova, will be onsite on Tuesday, January 22 beginning at 1 p.m. She will be discussing a program which is available to friends and families of people with addictions. This is a free session. Refreshments will be provided. Pre-register by calling 467-3611.

Historical Society

January 22 Annapolis Valley Historical Society meeting, Tuesday, Jan. 22, 7:30 p.m. at Macdonald Museum, Middleton. Guest speakers will talk about travel highlights. Everyone welcome. No admission. Phone 825-6116 for more information.

Substance Use Seminar

January 22 A Community Information Session on Youth Substance Use and Adolescent Addiction Services will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 22, 7 p.m. at the Middleton Regional High School Library. A look at the physical and behavioural signs of substance use, trends among Nova Scotia students, tips on how to talk to youth about use, and how to encourage youth to avoid use as well as information on services and programs. Guest speaker will be Jennifer Youden, Adolescent Worker - Addiction Services, Soldiers Memorial Hospital. This program is being sponsored by the Middleton Regional High School Advisory Council.

Stability Ball class

January 24 Come stay in shape this winter. Get out your stability ball or use one of ours. For people of all ages. Thursday evenings at 7 p.m. in Lawrencetown at the Lawrencetown Education Centre, starting January 24. For more information or to register call Brian, 532-3144.

Think Rink

January 25 Paradise Baptist Family Night: Think: “Rink.” (Please note the date change.) Lace up your skates and meet us at the Lawrencetown Exhibition Youth Arena. We have an hour of ice time booked from 7 to 8 p.m. Hot chocolate will follow at the church (10273 Hwy. 1, Paradise). COGS students are always welcome. Community Lunches

January 25 The Women’s Place Resource Centre in Bridgetown is hosting community lunches the last Friday of each month. Our first community lunch will be Friday, Jan. 25 at 11:30 a.m. Guest speaker will be Judith Swift from the Diabetes Society. All are welcome to attend. Free transportation can be arranged. Free Throw Championships

January 27 Knights of Columbus is sponsoring a Youth Free Throw Championship. All boys and girls ages 10 to 14 from Lawrencetown to Berwick are invited to participate in the local level of competition for the 2008 Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship. The local competition will be held January 27 at 2 p.m. at the Pine Ridge Middle School in Kingston. Registration begins at 1:30 p.m.. Refreshments will be provided. Proof of age is required. Word Processing

Relay for Life
