Sainte-Anne’s Père-Léger-Comeau Gallery

Université Sainte-Anne is hosting the art exhibit 10-10-10 until Jan. 31, bringing together artists from all Canadian provinces. The opening will be held Sunday, Jan. 20 at 1p.m. at the Père-Léger-Comeau Gallery on the university’s Church Point campus.

The city of Baie-Saint Paul, in Quebec’s Charlevoix region (100 km east of Quebec City), was chosen Canada’s Cultural Capital by Canadian Heritage for the year 2007. To celebrate this nomination, the Corporation des Fêtes et Événements de Charlevoix (COFEC), which has organized the annual event Rêves d’automne, Festival paysages en peinture for the past 17 years, also helped produce the 10-10-10 project, named for the 10 artists, 10 provinces and 10 days characterizing it.

During the 10 days of the Rêves d’automne art festival, 10 artists, one from each of Canada’s 10 provinces, created the works constituting this exhibit. The artists were asked to create pieces representative of their respective provinces, in a 30’’ x 36’’ format. This exhibition will be presented across Canada this year.

Luc Tardif, the university’s social/cultural director, says that, as the only French language university in Nova Scotia, Sainte-Anne is proud to be presenting this exhibit. “It is a fitting representation of our large country’s cultural diversity. In our neck of the woods we rarely have access to this kind of exhibition which we would normally expect to find only in Halifax or in other urban centers,” Tardif said.

The public is invited to the gallery for the opening on Sunday, Jan. 20 at 1 p.m. Nova Scotian artist Peter Gough will be on hand to present the project and meet with those in attendance. Refreshments will be served and a musical duo will also be performing.
