Police assault case set over
Former Queens RCMP officer, Const. Addie MacCallum’s assault case was set over for plea Jan. 8 until 9:30 a.m. Jan. 29 in Liverpool Provincial Court.
The Bible Hill detachment member has been charged with alleged assaults against Terry Russell of Caledonia and Cory Peach of Port Mouton.
Const. MacCallum arrested Russell June 16, 2005 at his home. He was charged with assaulting a police officer, uttering threats, escaping custody, obstruction, and damaging a police car.
On the day before Russell’s trial was to begin, the charges were dropped.
Russell then filed a complaint with the RCMP in addition to a civil suit seeking $180,000 in damages. He said in a previous interview he dropped the suit because he was forced to represent himself and was facing fines for improperly filed paper work.
After two years passed, Russell received a letter dated Nov. 5, 2007 from the Commission for Public Complaints against the RCMP that stated two counts of assault will be laid against Const. MacCallum.
Const. MacCallum denied the allegations during the civil suit proceedings.
