Murray Francis Phillips, age 77, of Windsor, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 29, 2007, at the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born on August 30, 1930, in Sweets Corner, Hants County, he was a son of the late Harley and Grace (Lockhart) Phillips. Murray was a crane operator and had worked on numerous construction sites throughout the Atlantic Provinces before his retirement in 1995. He was a member of local 721 Operating Engineers, Christ Church Anglican, Windsor and also Hants County Branch No. 009, Royal Canadian Legion, Windsor. Murray will be sadly missed, but lovingly remembered by his wife of 56 years, the former Merle O’Leary; his daughters, Linda (Raymond) Croft, Brooklyn; Sherri, Falmouth; Janice (Jason) Woods, Kelvin Grove, PEI; his only son, Russell (Jocelyn) Cornwall, PEI; also by grandchildren, Jason (Roseanna) Stephens, and their children, Ashley, Vanessa, Emma, Justin and Jordan; Trudi (Michael) White and their children, Tristen and Evan; Michael (Allison) Stephens; also grandchildren, Julie, Jenna and Jillian Woods; his sister, Bette Zong, Gypsum Mines. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Ronald Zong. Cremation has taken place. Visitation was 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, January 1, 2008, in Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor. NORMAN, Diane Lynn Mary - 60, passed away peacefully in her home in Harmony Mills, Saturday, December 29, 2007. Born in Brooklyn, she was a daughter of the late Herford and Linda (Whynot) (Henneberry) McKinnon. She was a loving caregiver at Meadowbrook Manor. Diane loved her family so very much and gave them all the love that was in her heart to give. Mum loved the simple things in life; her sanctuary was sitting by the lake taking in all the peace and beauty that surrounded her or watching her grandson Colby, who resided with her, play and helping him learn. She loved all her grandchildren very much and will be sadly missed by all the family. She leaves to mourn, her loving husband Gary; daughters, Missy (Shawn) Veinot; Catherine and Carmen. Walter Vincent Keating Hughes – 78, of Wolfville, dearly loved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, passed away December 29, 2007, in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, following a brief illness with cancer. Born in Halifax on March 7, 1929, he was the son of Vera (Creelman) Hughes and Matthew Hughes. He graduated in 1953 from the Nova Scotia Technical College as a Civil Engineer. Wally will be fondly remembered for his devotion to his family and profession, and for his eternal love of the farm and forest, all of which he captured on canvas in his later years. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Elizabeth “Betty” (Murphy) Hughes; son, Mark Hughes (Patty), Wolfville; daughters, Kim (John Tait), Guelph; Leslee (John MacKenzie), Truro and Nancy Hughes-O’Higgins (David O’Higgins), New York; sisters, Jean Bowes and Loretta Yates; grandchildren, Nathan, Laurie Anne, and Matthew Hughes, Kayleigh and Breanne Tait, Quinn, Kate and Erin MacKenzie and Lily Hughes-O’Higgins; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; brother, Elmer and sisters, Kay and Carrie. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation, by family request. Herbert Cheeseman - passed away peacefully on December 29, surrounded by family, in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, NS. Born January 2nd, 1903, he was five days short of his 105th birthday. He spent Christmas at his granddaughter’s home, surrounded by family. Predeceased by his wife Dorothy, brothers Harold & Will, and sisters Dorothy & Laura, he is survived by sons Hugh & Graham, daughter Maureen, eight grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Herbert was a member of the Royal Army Service Corps between the two Great Wars, serving in Ireland, India and Persia. He, Dorothy & Maureen immigrated to Canada in 1947, living in Ontario, Quebec, and Nova Scotia. To his family and friends, he was the salt of the earth. Sadly, the world has lost some of its flavouring. Visitation for Mr. Cheeseman was held from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Friday January 4, 2008 in the H.C. ROONEY, M. “Jeanne” Mance - 85, Mount Denson, passed away in the Windsor Elms, on December 25, 2007. Born in Rough Waters, N.B., she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Mary Hazel (Doucette) Chamberlain. Jeanne moved to Nova Scotia during the Second World War to work as part of the war effort at the Windsor Textiles. She was a founding member of the St. Mary’s Ladies Guild. She coordinated the Sunday school for many years and served on the parish council. In 1995 she received the Diocesan Medal for Merit in recognition of her many contributions to the church over the years. She is survived by her husband, DeWitt Rooney, Windsor Elms; daughter, Paulette (Robert MacDonald), High Prairie, Alta.; son, Anthony (Donna); grandsons, Christian and Tanner, Bishopville; granddaughter, Cheryl Brown, Halifax; daughter, Teresa, Kentville; brothers, Edmond, Sarnia, Ont.; Maurice, Gerard, Jerry Chamberlain, Bathurst, N.B.; sisters, Victorine Hannan, Lucinda Vienneau, Eleanor Hachey, Bathurst, N.B., and Diane Vautour, Sarnia, Ont.
