Liverpool rink alive with action
The week between Christmas and New Years saw the Liverpool rink alive with action as the Atom B and Novice Cougars hosted tournaments.
Two days of very competitive Atom hockey resulted in Shelburne being awarded the gold medal while Acadia received the silver on the basis of their victory over Bridgewater, which took home the bronze.

Winners are not determined at the Novice level, as the focus is on development. This tournament involved two teams from Liverpool along with teams from Barrington, Chester, Lunenburg and Bridgewater.

The Novice tournament was a grand success with all six teams enjoying their four games.

Each team played three games Saturday and one on Sunday. Some players enjoyed a stay and the pool at White Point during the tournament with seven and eight year olds taking time to enjoy the water in addition to the ice.

The games on ice were fairly evenly matched. Comments received from the coaches were that of good games and looking forward to playing these teams again.

Billy Killam won the Loonie stick and four young hockey players won draws for Mooseheads t-shirts and a signature stick. (Also Mooseheads). Scratch tickets for a draw on the Mooseheads’ signed Jersey or Swiss Chalet dinner and a movie are still available from either the AtomBB or Novice team parents.

Tournament organizers Frances Younker and Henriette Frielink wish to thank all the sponsors that helped make the tournament a great success. Ice time sponsors included Acadia First Nation (two hours), Motel Transcotia (one hour) and Irving Oil (one hour). Other great sponsors for game MVPs and raffle prizes included Swiss Chalet, Liverpool Home Hardware, McDonalds, Subway, Sobeys and A-1 Pizza.

Queens Memorial Arena and the excellent referees graciously offered reduced rates and White Point Lodge offered visiting teams great room deals as well.

Here are the full results and complete standings of the Atom portion of the Christmas tournament.
