Dialysis clinic nearly complete
The relocation of Capital Health's satellite dialysis clinic at Queens General Hospital should be completed by mid-January.
People with kidney failure use the clinic, which has been operating at the hospital for a “fair number of years,” said South Shore Health Chief Executive Officer, Kevin McNamara.
Most visit three times a week for a three to four hour procedure, he said.
It is being relocated to where the old sterilizer used to be, he explained, because it was in an "inadequate area."
The goal is to make the space larger to enable them to treat more patients.
“The renovations are being funded through Capital Health by the Department of Health,” said McNamara.
The renovations, which cost about $100,000, began in October.
McNamara said the South Shore Health Board is pleased about the upgrade.
He also wants to remind readers to consider the importance of donating organs and tissues since the people using the clinic need a kidney transplant.
