Legion Auxiliary elects 2008 officers, executive

The last general meeting of the Ladies Auxiliary’ of the Kentville Legion was held Dec. 19, with 29 ladies answering roll call.

President Emma thanked Darlene Stewart for taking over from Sharon MacLeod, who resigned due to sickness. We wish her a speedy recovery!

Margaret Johnstone was presented with her membership card for 2008 after being the only member who attended all meetings in 2007 except one. Congratulations, Margaret.

Thank-you cards were received from Bernice McGee for her poinsettia from the Auxiliary and Christmas card from Vernon Wentzell of the Branch.

Sick and Visiting had a busy month. Josie reported calling Irene Griffin after her fall in November and sent her a card. Cards were also sent to Cathy Kinsman and Doris Walsh and Lila McCrea. Also, poinsettias were delivered to the over 90 years of age members and shut-ins. Thanks to Minnie Sheffield for all her help.

President Wallace reported taking over this committee. Since our last meeting the committee catered to the “Call to Remembrance” banquet, did up small salad plates for the dance Dec. 15 as well made up bags of candy for the children’s party in the afternoon.

Padre Gayle Vanamerongen reported sending a card to Helen Mahar on the passing of her sister in-law Dec. 4 and card to Cindy Peck Dec. 12 on the passing of her brother in-law. Also, a card was sent to Bob Demone on the passing of her wife Marilyn, who was a former Auxiliary member. Our condolences to these members.

Jannie Dykens thanked Minnie Sheffield, who took over her duties on the executive due to the illness of her husband; also, Cathy Kinsman thanked the Auxiliary for the card sent to her and the many phone calls she received.
