Pauline Winnifred Milne – 78, of Kentville, formerly of Aylesford Lake, passed away Tuesday, December 25, 2007 at home. Born in Aylesford, she was a daughter of the late Lew and Flora Belle (DeEll) Freeman. She loved her Lord, and took great comfort in His presence during her illness. She was a member of the North Alton Baptist Church and for several years, taught Sunday school in the Berwick Baptist Church. She maintained an open door policy in her home, where an extra place at the table was always available. She had been a seamstress, loved to garden, especially flowers, and was as comfortable with a hammer and paint brush as she was with baking cookies. She was a steadfast worker in her home and community. She is survived by her husband, Gerry Milne; two daughters, Marilyn (Bill) Kenny and Jeanette (Ervin) Vidito; a son, Kenneth Jr. (Debbie) Fredericks; seven step-children, Bill (Connie) Milne, Joy (Vaughn) Gates, Dale (Dave) Bentley, Dupie (John) Ashton, Ingonish; Lindsay (Cathy) Milne, Jeff (Charlene) Milne and Kevin (Donna) Milne; 30 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her first husband, Kenneth Fredericks; a sister, Reta Corkum; four brothers, Carmen, Cecil, Reginald, Corey and two infant brothers. Visitation was held from 7-9 p.m. Friday, December 28, 2007 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 29, 2007, Reverend Quincy Collins officiated. Burial took place in the Berwick Cemetery. Family flowers only, by request. Phillip Reginald “Phil” MacAloney – 75, of Port Williams, passed away Tuesday, December 25, 2007 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Woodside, Kings County, he was a son of the late Clinton and Helen (Smith) MacAloney. He was initially employed as a meat cutter and later worked for Kent Vinegar in Wolfville and Sarsfield’s in Canning. He was then employed with the Nova Scotia Liquor Commission in Berwick retiring as Assistant Manager. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of the gun club. He is survived by his wife, the former Clara A. Hatt; three step-children, Wendy (Dennis) Gaskell, Kentville; Susan (Wade) Stewart, New Brunswick; Norman Bennett, Windsor; a god-child, Pam (Steven) Power, Dartmouth; a sister, Miriam “Mim” Lloyd, New Minas; a niece, Debbie (Jud) Porter, London, England; a nephew, Derek Lloyd, Ontario; several step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother-in-law, Melvin “Mel” Lloyd; two aunts, Lillian Smith and Kaye Smith; an uncle, George Smith. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville and there was no visitation by family request. Francis John Gaul – 80, of North Alton, Kings County, passed away Tuesday, December 25, 2007 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born on December 6, 1927 in Dalhousie Road, Kings County, he was a son of the late Thaddeus and Norine (DeAdder) Gaul. He spent many of his working years as a finish carpenter. Previously, Francis worked at many wood-related jobs, including the Billy Gaul and Wayne Morse mills, woods-work for Pearly Barkhouse and Ray Hiltz, the stave mills in Queens County and at Franey Corner, as well as driving the stave truck route to Mahone Bay. During his early years, he managed his woodlot, harvesting Christmas trees and for a time, also worked as a road foreman. Francis was well liked by all who knew him. He was always a hard-working man and ever ready to lend a helping hand. He was a former chairman of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church Building Committee. He loved to spend time with his family and spent many hours working on projects around the house. He loved country music and enjoyed traveling throughout the province to attend music events. He also loved to snowmobile. He will be missed and fondly remembered by his family and many friends. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, the former Bertha Benjamin; three sons, Michael (Carolyn), Amherst; Christopher, Kentville; Kevin (Cheryl), Centreville; two sisters, Lavene Meister, New Ross; Phyllis Lonergan, Dartmouth; one brother, Carroll, Bridgewater; a sister-in-law, Frances Tracey, New Minas; many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and grand nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers and their wives, Curtis (Mabel), Joseph (Louie) and Phil (Phyllis); a sister, Luitzard; an infant daughter, Kathy; two beloved pets, Tiger and Blackie. There was no visitation by family request. The funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 29, 2007 in St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Kentville, Father Craig Christenson officiated. POTHIER-LeBLANC, Blanche Catherine (LeBlanc) - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of mom, Blanche Catherine (LeBlanc) Pothier–LeBlanc on Wednesday, December 26, 2007 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born in Wedgeport, she was the daughter of the late Pius and Erite LeBlanc. A life long resident of Wedgeport, mom began her cooking career in the family owned LeBlanc Cafe. Her cooking and generosity will be remembered not only by her family but by her friends and throughout the community. Although she enjoyed sharing her baked goods with friends, her true passions were her family and her pets. Although she was small in stature, she had the heart, strength, and courage of a giant. She was an excellent role model for her children and will be truly missed by all. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Ruben Pothier, and her second husband, Leo LeBlanc, as well as by brothers, Percy, Hector, Edmund, Gordon, Edward and Archibald LeBlanc; sisters, Alfreda LeBlanc-Mayo, Pauline Brezet and Louise Robichaud. She will be sadly missed and survived by her three daughters, Pauline Cann, Yarmouth; Paula Pothier, Dartmouth; Simone Pothier, South Ohio; her grandchildren, Yvette (Mark) Hatcher, Truro and Nadine Cann, Toronto; great grandchildren, Rodney and Nicole Hatcher, Truro; sisters, Marie Pothier, Claudia Richard and Lorraine LeBlanc; a brother, Eugene LeBlanc; her pets, Ziggy and Zoe, and her companion, Allan d’Eon. Visitation took place from 7 to 9 Friday evening, followed by a service of remembrance at 11 AM, Saturday, December 29, both in H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Wedgeport, Msgr. Gerald LeBlanc and Father Wieslaw Papuga officiated. A funeral mass and interment will take place at a later date. Flowers were welcome. KENNEY, Daniel Baker, 90, of Westport, died Dec. 26, 2007, at home. Funeral Dec. 30 in Westport Baptist Church, with burial in Westport Cemetery.

OLIVER, George William - 85, of Liverpool, passed away peacefully Thursday, December 27, 2007 at Queens General Hospital, Liverpool. Born in Espanola, Ontario, he was the son of the late Thomas G. and Emma F. (Gilbert) Oliver. George was a World War Two veteran serving in the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1942 to 1945 as a tailgunner with the 408 Bomber Squadron and the 405 Canadian Pathfinder Unit Bomber Command. He received his engineering degree from Curtis Ray Tech in California and his tool and dye and machinists trades from Nova Scotia Tech. He was employed with Bowater Mersey Paper Company Limited, Brooklyn for 36 years retiring in 1984 as a “master” roll grinderman. George was a member of the Mersey Band for a number of years served as Commanding Officer and instructor of Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron #545, Liverpool. George will be fondly remembered as a dedicated family man who took pleasure in the private moments of life. He was a perfectionist when it came to his unique style of woodworking and his approach to the customizing of home improvement projects. George is survived by daughters, Shelley (John) Oickle of Rothsay, NB; Julie (Larry) Romain, New Glasgow. Sons: Thomas (Sandy) of Sherwood Park, AB; Stephen (Janis) of Dartmouth; William (Kathleen) of Stouffville, ON; Michael Yarn of Qualicum, BC; Paul (Paula) Yarn of Dartmouth. 16 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife Barbara (Barrett); his second wife Marguerite (Beazley) (Yarn) and sister Dorothy. KILLAM (Macaulay), Kathleen Mary “Kay” - 88, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2007. Born in Montreal, she was a daughter of James Robert Macaulay and May Elizabeth (Paul) Macaulay, and sister of Christine (deceased at birth), Ian (deceased 2003), and James (Edmonton). After attending schools in Montreal, she graduated from McGill University in 1941 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She worked for the Bell Telephone Company and McGill University, before marrying Robert B. Killam (deceased September 2007), and moving to Yarmouth in 1950. For over 50 years, she was a devoted and active member of the IODE. She was also an active lifetime member of the United Church of Canada (in particular the UCW) and the Yarmouth County Historical Society, and a volunteer for many years in the Women's Auxiliary of the Yarmouth Hospital. Other passions included the Kritosophian Reading Club, golf, her "girls" bridge club and weekend barbeques with family and friends at Lake Annis. She was the beloved mother to Susan (Michael Scully), Shirley (David Betts) and Sally (Tim McCullagh); a dear grandmother to her two cherished grandchildren, Stephen and Jennifer; and a loving daughter, sister and aunt. There will be no visitation by request. Funeral service was held on Thursday, January 3, at 3 p.m. in Beacon United Church, Yarmouth, Rev. Leslie Robinson and Rev. Ray Corbett officiated. LeBLANC, Kolby F. “Master Kolby” - 15, Windsor Junction, passed away peacefully in IWK Health Centre on December 28, 2007, after a long battle with Hurler's syndrome. Born in Yarmouth, he was a son of Tracy Gibbons (Curtis Giles), Halifax, and Floyd LeBlanc (Carla Nickerson), Plymouth. Kolby was always a happy and funny boy who loved helping Mama in the kitchen, Papa's boat, camping, and the “wheeler”, as he would say. Kolby has touched so many hearts in his 15 years, and was loved by "all the people". Anyone who met Kolby probably has a funny story to tell. He loved riding the bus to school. He attended Plymouth School, West Mount and Ash Lee Jefferson. He will be sadly missed by Mama, Curtis, Papa, Karla, Nanny (Evelyn Myers), Grandmere and Grandpere (Pauline and Victor LeBlanc); great-grandmothers, Marion Gibbons and Alice LeBlanc; Uncle Warren (Angel) Gibbons, Tante Sharon (Joe) Southern; cousins, Andre, Logan, and Marcel. He will also be missed by his “large” supportive extended family members. He will be welcomed in Heaven by Grampy Terry Gibbons and best friend, Ashley. A special thank you to the palliative care team and all the staff on 7 East. We would not have been able to make it through his long battle without you. Thanks also to everyone who stayed and visited Kolby through his this long journey. Marjorie Ripley, age 90, of Windsor Forks, Hants County, passed away on Friday, December 28, 2007, at the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born on July 23, 1917, in Holborn, England, she was a daughter of the late Alfred and Ethel (Bryson) Miller. Marjorie immigrated to Canada as a young child, settling and being educated and raised in Hants County. She was formerly employed for many years at the Nova Scotia Textiles. She was a member of St. Michael’s Church, Windsor Forks and past secretary of the WMS. Marjorie enjoyed walking, loved her houseplants and was an avid reader. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by a son, Eric (Pat), Windsor Forks; grandchildren, Susan (Jim) Richards, Bridgewater; Terry (Kyla) Ripley, Winnipeg; Dawn Marie Marsters (Ron), Windsor; great-grandchildren, Paige, Nicole and Amy Mosher, Liverpool; Brandon and Allisa Marsters, Benjamin Underwood, all of Windsor; Anjuli Ripley, Winnipeg; sister, Jean Cochrane; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Charles Avard Ripley (1973); daughter, June Vivian Mosher; grandson, Timothy Walter Mosher. Cremation has taken place and there was no visitation by request. A graveside committal service was 11 a.m. Monday, December 31, 2007, in St. George’s Anglican Church Parish Cemetery, Upper Falmouth.
