December 23, 2007 to December 29, 2007 Crowe, Vivian Hazel, age 78, of Windsor, passed away Sunday, December 23, 2007 in the Hants Community Hospital. Born on March 20, 1929 in Burlington, Hants County, she was the daughter of the late Morris and Emily (Hazel) Barkhouse. After graduating from Windsor Academy, she attended Miss Anslow’s Business Academy and after graduation was employed by the Bank of Nova Scotia in Dartmouth until she met her husband and became a full-time homemaker. Surviving are her husband of 55 years, Earle; sons, Sheldon (Gail), Grande Prairie, Alberta; Timothy (Louise), Milton, Nova Scotia; Danny (Colleen), Grande Prairie, Alberta; daughters, Olivia McClare, Hillsvale, Nova Scotia; Miriam (Greg), Medicine Hat, Alberta; grandchildren, Kateland and Denver, Christie and Ben, Jennifer and David, Matthew and Melanie; Houston; three great-grandchildren; brother, Edwin (Betty), Waverly, Nova Scotia; many nieces and nephews. Vivian was predeceased by brothers, Boyd Allen and Adrian; son-in-law, Robbie McClare. Cremation has taken place. Visitation was 7-9 p.m. Saturday, December 29, 2007 in Lindsay's Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor, where a memorial service was held 2 p.m. Sunday, December 30, 2007. Murray Pemberton officiated. Interment took place in Windsor Forks Community Cemetery. Donations in Vivian's memory may be made to the Hants Community Hospital. December 23, 2007 to December 29, 2007 STUART, Silas Wallace Borden, of Roseway Manor, formerly of East Green Harbour, passed away Sunday, December 23, 2007 in Roseway Manor, Sandy Point, Shelburne County. Born in West Green Harbour on March 25, 1915 he was a son of the late Samuel and Annasthecia (Williams) Stuart. Silas worked as a fisherman and later at Pierce Fisheries, Lockeport until his retirement at the age of 71. He was a very active man and loved the outdoors. He was a devoted husband and father. He is survived by sons, Stanley (Lorna), West Green Harbour; Wallace (Jennifer), East Green Harbour; Thomas, East Green Harbour; daughters, Joyce Buchanan, East Green Harbour; Sally Coe, Vancouver; Mary, Lockeport; Eva (Jean) Camille Rouselle, Le Goulet, NB: 24 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Alice and daughter Betty; sister, Ella Keating; brothers, Berlin, Joanas, Currie, Robert Cox and a grandson, Tim. Funeral service was held on Thursday, December 27, 2007 in H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Chapel, Lockeport with Pastor Eric Revie officiating. Interment in Lockeport Cemetery. December 23, 2007 to December 29, 2007 Noreen E. (Nickleson) McDormand, 88, of 320 Everett Street, Benton, Mass., died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2007 at home following a lengthy illness. The McDormands had been residents of Benton since December, 1983. Born Aug. 8, 1919 in West Lorne, Ont., she was the daughter of the late Cornelius ‘Neil’ and Louise (Van Loon) Nickleson. She and her husband, Rev. Vernon W. McDormand, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on May 1. Mrs. McDormand worked as a Registered Nurse in the nursery of the Monongahela Hospital in Monongahela, Pa. Also, during her working career, she had also been employed by the Girl Scouts and was secretary for All Canada Churches of Christ in Toronto. She was a graduate of West Lorne-Dutton High School in Dutton, Ont.; attended Alma College in St. Thomas, Ont., and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas; and earned her registered nurse’s degree from Westmoreland Community College in Greensburg, Pa. She had been an active member of Benton Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) where her husband had been a pastor for many years. She had served as an elder, church secretary, sang in the choir, worked with the children’s groups and was active in the ladies organizations of the church. She also had served on the state board of the Christian Church, Disciples of Christ. Mrs. McDormand had also been a member of the Benton Lions Club and Order of Eastern Star, Bloomsburg Chapter. She especially enjoyed spending time with family, her church family and her many friends. She was especially fond of her cats. Other hobbies included collecting dolls, gardening, and growing flowers. She always looked forward to celebrating the Christmas holidays each year. Surviving, in addition to her husband, Vernon, are her three children, Kenneth Henry McDormand and wife, Lynn, Racine, Wisc.; Rev. Dorothy Ann McDormand, Pittsburgh; Frances McDormand and husband, Joel Coen, Manhattan, N.Y.; four grandchildren, Kenneth McDormand and his wife, Cherie, Pontiac, Ill.; Sheri Dawn McDormand, Lincoln, Ill.; Brian Lee McDormand, Bloomington, Ill.; Pedro McDormand Coen, Manhattan; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Carmen Nickleson, St. Thomas, Ont; and close friends, Gary and Alice Strauch, Waller. Funeral service was held Dec. 27 in Benton Christian Church, Benton, with burial in Waller Cemetery. Contributions in her memory may be made to Lexington Theological Seminary, 631 S. Limestone Street, Lexington, Ky., 40508.

December 23, 2007 to December 29, 2007 GILL, Mary Louise - 92, Yarmouth, passed away December 24, 2007, in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born on August 4, 1915, in Pleasant Lake, Yarmouth Co., she was a daughter of the late Stephen and Maggie Thompson. Mary was a member of Temple Baptist Church. She was a homemaker all her working life and was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Mary is survived by daughters, Audrey (Philip) Nickerson, Hebron; Shari MacGillivray, Yarmouth; grandchildren, Christopher, Colin, Scott and Crystal Nickerson, David MacGillivray; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Ron; son, Cyril; a brother and six sisters. Visitation was Thursday, December 27, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service was Friday, December 28, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Robert Baker officiating, both in Sweeny's Funeral Home Chapel. Born in Annapolis Royal, she was the daughter of the late Herald and Annette (Kinghorn) Northup. Ella loved to read as well as do crossword puzzles. She is survived by her son Dr. J. Peter (Valerie) Hall, Ottawa, Ont. and her daughter Wendy Hudson (Keith), Halifax; grandchildren Jeffrey Hall; Bradley (Renee) Hall; Iqaluit, Nuivit and Kate Hall of Halifax. She is predeceased by her husband, S.G. "Pete" Hall and her sister Catherine "Kaye" Roberts. No visitation by request. A Service of Remembrance was held Saturday, December 29, at 2 p.m. from St. George and St. Andrew United Church, Rev. Robert McCarthy officiated. Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery. Born in Wolfville, she was a daughter of the late Howard and Viola (Rogers) Rogers. She had been employed at Acadia University for several years. She is survived by her husband, Arthur; a son, Philip MacAdams, Grand Pré; two brothers, Thomas (Delma), Cole Harbour; John (Ena), Melanson; a grandson, Michael, Kentville. She was predeceased by three sisters, Jeanette Davison, Mildred Bishop and Frances Benjamin; two brothers, Leslie and Kenneth. Visitation was held from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, December 27, 2007 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 28, 2007, Reverend Ellen Hunt officiated. Born October 30, 1957 in Liverpool, she was a daughter of the late Willis and Doris (Hupman) Roy. Anna loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved to have fun and enjoyed playing bingo, going for drives and drinking her Tim Horton’s coffee. She is survived by daughter Tanya (Chad) Whynot, of Greenfield; step daughter Crystal (Randy) Wamboldt, of Liverpool; stepsons Gordon Hanson, of Brooklyn, Darren (Amanda) Hanson, of Liverpool, Danny (Janie, sister to Anna) Hanson, of Greenfield; grandchildren Whitney, Johnathon; six step grandchildren; 10 step great grandchildren; sisters Rose Mansfield, of Liverpool, Cynthia (Alan) Wilson, of White Point, Ellen (Eric) Bonnell, of Italy Cross, Susan Acker, of Port Mouton; brothers Gary (Paula), of Liverpool, Earl (Jane), of White Point, Berton (Glenda), of Brooklyn, Jason (Holly), of Milton; several nieces and nephews. Born on September 27, 1924, in Yarmouth, she was a daughter of the late Roy and Elizabeth (Muise) Fells. Nora was an adherent to Holy Trinity Anglican Church. She was a homemaker all her working life, and an avid bingo player and gardener as well. Nora was a loving mother to all her children. Nora is survived by her daughters, June (Robert) Durkee, Sandford; Ruth (Peter) Hicks, Riverview, N.B.; sons, Brian, Hebron; Fred, Oshawa, Ont.; Calvin (Dianna), Yarmouth; Loran (Kathy), Yarmouth; Blair (Valarie), Yarmouth; Robert, Yarmouth; brother, Loran C.
