Residents satisfied with Meadow Pond precautions
A concerned Bog Road, Liverpool resident told Region of Queens Municipal Council during its Dec. 17 meeting he is satisfied the “necessary precautions” will be taken when new Meadow Pond water control structures are built.
Last month, Bill Cox voiced the concerns of residents on Bog Road.
Residents were worried the project would cause their basements to flood or wells to go dry.
Council tabled the motion until the December meeting.
The Region of Queens Municipality has partnered with the Queens County Fish and Game Association, which is the lead agency responsible for all of the planning, said Mayor John Leefe.
Phase one of the Meadow Pond project began in the 1980s.
The goal was to stabilize Meadow Pond for waterfowl.
The project was “very successful,” Mayor Leefe said.
Phase two will focus on creating two water control structures, he explained.
This will be a place for waterfowl but will also help to regulate the water in Meadow Pond Brook and in the pond itself, said the Mayor.
The Department of Natural Resources acquired the land in the early 1990s through a land trade with the family that owned the property.
Mayor Leefe said the region will participate in phase two by providing “in kind” assistance.
