Rufus William McCulloch - 71, Windsor, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at home on Thursday, December 13, 2007. He was a son of the late Alonzo and Mary (Macumber) McCulloch (Scotch Village). He worked for many years in the construction industry and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 009, Windsor, where he enjoyed doing volunteer work and was well-known throughout the community. He loved spending time with his children and especially his grandchildren at family gatherings. He is survived by his daughters, Elaine (Mike) Leighton, Wolfville; Nancy (Kevin) Smith, Brooklyn; son, Darrell, Brooklyn; loving grandchildren, Jennifer McCulloch (Raymond Upshaw), Three Mile Plains; Teresa McCulloch, Halifax; Lindsay Leighton, Halifax; Kristy Leighton, Wolfville; Chad Smith, Brooklyn; Blake Smith, Brooklyn; Austin O'Donnell, Brooklyn; great-grandsons, Kayden Upshaw and Lynken Upshaw, Three Mile Plains; sisters, Hannah, Ontario; Margaret, Alberta; Emily, Dykeland Lodge, Windsor; Ruby, Alberta; brothers, Charlie, Union Corner; Harding, Elderbank; as well as former daughter-in-law, Debbie Shay, Brooklyn, and his former wife, Jean Chambers, Brooklyn. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Eric; sister, Georgina, sister, Eva, and his daughter-in-law, Lynn Susanne McCulloch. Gary John Everson - 36, Northampton, England passed away suddenly on December 14, 2007 in Nova Scotia, while visiting his mother and family. Born in Northampton, England he was a son of Geoffrey Everson, Northampton, England and Sylvia Dobson, Coldbrook, Kings County. Gary lived and worked in both Canada and England. HUBLEY, Jordan H. 91, of Queens Manor, Liverpool, formerly of Port Medway, passed away peacefully in Queens Manor on December 14th, 2007. Born in Port Medway, he was a son of the late James and Teresea (Sarty) Hubley. Jordan was the last surviving member of the Hubley lineage from Ragged Harbour. From an early age, he worked the farm and wood lot with his father. He was a fisherman, butcher, a caretaker of a cemetery and all round labourer. He was fondly known as “the hardest working man in Port Medway.” He is survived by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by many brothers and sisters. Funeral service was held Monday, December 17th, 2007 from Port Medway Baptist Church. Rev. David Hatt officiated assisted by members of Jordan’s family. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery, Port Medway. LUTZ, Ford Herbert – 80 of Kingston, N.S. passed away Friday, December 14, 2007 at Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born at Lake Paul, Kings County he was a son of the late Manford and Jennie (Orpin) Lutz. Ford retired in 1983 after 30 years of employment with Ontario Hydro as an electrician. He was a member of Kingston Branch #98, Royal Canadian Legion, as well as Argus Masonic Lodge #133, Kingston and also the Western Valley Shrine Club. Surviving are his wife the former Irene (Greene) Magee; Daughters Susan (Dave) Renaud, Oyen, AB; Sharon (Mark) Livingstone, Beeton, ON; Step-daughters Ginny (George) Greene, North Williamston; Pat (George) Douglas, St. Stephen, NB; Vivian (Doug) Findlay, Debert; step-son Percy (Kathy Hartt) Magee, Ellershouse; sister Winnie Marshall, Weymouth and brother Ronald (Joyce) Lutz, Auburn. Eleven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife Betty, son William Richard and two brothers in infancy, Arnold and Gordon. Visitation was held Tuesday, December 18th in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., (902) 825-3448 beginning with a Masonic tribute conducted by Argus Masonic Lodge #133 at 7 o’clock. Mary (Fortune) Himsl - 87, died Dec. 15/07 in Grand View Manor, Berwick NS. Born in Florence, Cape Breton to Frank and Marion (MacNeil) Fortune. Mary grew up in Sydney Mines and graduated from Mount St. Bernard College She was predeceased by ex husband Lt. Cmdr. Frank Himsl Dec.4/07. She is survived by children Frank, William and wife Tince, Paul, Edward, Clara and grandchildren Jason, Amanda, Will, Lara, Helen, Kurt, Roberta, Warner, Erika and several great grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters Judy and Teresa and predeceased by sisters Zephyrina and Henrietta and brothers Cyril, Reg, Frank, Austin, John and Daniel in infancy and by grandaughter Angela. Olive Ethel Harland – 90, formerly of Kentville, passed away Saturday, December 15, 2007. Born on October 29, 1917 in Bedford, she was a daughter of the late Phoebe (Smith) and Francis Kyte. She lived most of her life in Kentville, moving to Wolfville, following the death of her husband, James Harland, in 1989. She is survived by her sons, Tom (Heather Doyle), Charlottetown, PEI and Frank (Brenda), Wolfville; her sister, Edith Cousins, Kentville; her daughter-in-law, Anne Harland, Halifax. She will also be missed and fondly remembered by her grandchildren, Janice, Jamie, Paula, Corinne and Jonathan, as well as eight great grandchildren, whose visits and photos she truly enjoyed. She enjoyed playing the piano and continued to play until just a few months before her death. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brothers, Frank, Willie and Ben; her sister, Millie. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville and there was no visitation by family request. Phillip Alfred Martin – 71, of Kentville, passed away Saturday, December 15, 2007 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Sheffield Mills, Kings County, he was a son of the late Gordon and Beatrice (Sheffield) Martin. He was a life-long farmer and enjoyed singing and playing the guitar. He was a member of the bluegrass gospel band, The Homesteaders, and also enjoyed crossword puzzles and cryptograms. He is survived by his wife, the former Janet Crocker; a daughter, Darlene (Scott) Bonin, Mulgrave; a son, James (Angela), New Glasgow; a brother, Robert, New Minas; five grandchildren, Jeffery, Amanda, Cody, Chelsea and Kayleigh; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Dorothy and Faye; four brothers, Leo, Wilbur, Laurie and Kenneth. Katherine I. (Hopkins) Kenney, 84, died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2007, peacefully following a brief illness at Miriam Boyd Parlin Residence surrounded by her family. She was the wife of William S. Kenney. Born in Doctor’s Cove, Nova Scotia, the daughter of the late Herbert H. and Edith M. (Kenney) Hopkins, she was educated in Canadian schools and came to the United States at age 21. She previously resided in Watertown and has been a resident of Wayland for 40 years. A member of the Nickerson Family Association of Chatham, she enjoyed spending summers with her family at their Chatham residence. Among her hobbies were knitting and she spent many hours knitting mittens for homeless children in Canada. A talented and creative rug maker, she made many braided rugs for her family and spent time with other rug makers in the local area. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and her happiest experiences were spending time with them. Besides her husband, she leaves her children, William S. Kenney Jr. and his wife, Suzanne E. Reitz, of Wayland and Louise Kenney Egan and her husband, George E., of WeIlesley; grandchildren, Julia E., lan W., Tyler R. and Margaux C. Kenney, all of Wayland, George E. Egan Jr. of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Glenn H. Egan of WeIlesley; her siblings, Clifford, Glen, William and Edward Hopkins, all of Cape Breton, and Louise MacHardy of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. She was the sister of the late Bradley Hopkins. A memorial service celebrating her life was held Saturday, Dec. 15, at 3 p.m., at First Parish Unitarian Church, routes 20 and 27, Wayland Center.
