Retribution assault in North Queens?
Nineteen-year-old Harmony resident, Coby Merry, the man who is going to court for allegedly assaulting a woman with a rock, is now a victim as well.
He was assaulted Dec. 14 in Caledonia, sustaining injuries serious enough to be transported to South Shore Regional Hospital in Bridgewater. The injuries are not life-threatening.

A charge of assault causing bodily harm is expected to be laid as a result, according to Queens RCMP detachment Staff Sgt. Bruno Deveau, but, until the paperwork is completed, the 19-year-old man’s name cannot be released.

His Liverpool Provincial Court date is Feb. 5, 2008.

Staff Sgt. Deveau said if, and he stresses if, the case involves retribution, “The only thing I can say is let the court process take place instead of taking the law in your own hands or lots of people will be in court. The previous incident allegedly involving Coby Merry was looked after.”

He added, “We’ve been in the school (North Queens Rural High) and community trying to calm things down in that sense.”

He also said they have a residential policing officer in place and regular patrols in the area but that the situation is difficult. “If someone wants to assault somebody, they’re going to assault somebody.”

April 15 and April 22 have been set aside for Merry’s trial.
