Flora Mable Clamp – 93, of Kentville, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, Monday, December 10, 2007 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Kentville, she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Bessie (Corkum) Barkhouse. In addition to being a homemaker, she was an accomplished seamstress and baker. She was a member of Bethany Memorial Baptist Church for 35 years and had been active with many committees, including the Ladies Auxiliary and the Finance Committee. Flora was proud to be a member of T.O.P.S. for 19 years and was honoured to mentor others through this program. She enjoyed flower gardening and was particularly proud of her yearly Salvia display. She also enjoyed preserving. Flora was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She is survived by her son, Wayne (Helen), Kentville; four grandchildren, Michael Clamp, Mary Beth Clamp, Debbie (Wayne) Currie and Kathy (Bruce) Bassett; two great grandchildren, Shannon and Emily. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her husband, John; three sisters, Lizzie, Sarah and Viola; three brothers, Austin, Earl and Lorne. Visitation was held from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, December 12, 2007 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 13, 2007, Chaplain Mary Anne Doherty-Fleet officiated. A private family interment took place in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill, Kings County. Family flowers only, by request. Donations in memory may be made to Bethany Memorial Baptist Church. Douglas Ernest Kirby - passed away Dec. 9, 2007 in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Halifax, 31 July 1925,he was the youngest son of the late Harold and Ethel (Shaw) Kirby, Kentville.He was predeceased by his younger sister, Alice (MacFarlane); infant son, Alan and grand-son, Michael. Doug is survived by his loving wife, Elaine (McCallum); brothers Clyde, Bellisle and Joseph, Ottawa; son, Stephen (Amelia), Kingston; daughters: Carol Spencer (Christopher), Waterville; Susan Ebsary (Robert), Ottawa and grand-sons: Patrick Brick (Tasha) Summerset; Alan and Andrew Ebsary, Ottawa; grand-daughter, Rebecca Ebsary, Ottawa and great grand-son, James Brick, Summerset. Doug joined the RCNVR in 1943 and finished the war serving on the HMCS St Boniface. After the war he managed Rockwell’s Hardware Store in Kentville. He was a proud member of the Kentville Fire Department, an active member of the Kentville Curling Club and a Charter Member of the Kentville Lions Club. He later joined the RCAF and had a very successful 27 year career as a Communications Technician. He retired from the Canadian Forces in 1977 at CFB Summerside to be a gentleman farmer in Kinkora PEI. Always driven to improve his surroundings and those of his neighbors, Doug oversaw the revitalization of the village of Kinkora’s infrastructure by instigating and overseeing a major upgrading of the sewer system. His next project was as the general contractor for a new Village of Kinkora Fire Hall, Community / Seniors Centre and Library. He and friends Arnie McKiever and Clare Duffy pioneered ethanol production on PEI. Their research and development 30 years ago is having a direct influence on the PEI Government’s renewed interest in an ethanol production program. Doug and Elaine moved to Berwick in 1983 to be near their family and again developed close ties to the community. Doug was a member of the Berwick Lions Club for a number of years and sold real estate out of the office of Joan Balcom Realty. He may be best remembered as the guy who took your money at the Christ Church Dinners for many years .The family wishes to thank the following, but not exclusively, for the kindness and support they gave Doug during his heroic battle with cancer. Cremation has taken place under the care of the Annapolis Valley Funeral Home, Coldbrook. A private family interment has been held at the Berwick Cemetery. Memorial service was held in Doug’s memory at the Anglican Church of Canada, Christ Church, Berwick, at 11 a.m. 13 December, immediately followed by a reception in the Church Hall. Ruth Alice Davison - it is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Ruth Alice (Murphy) Davison, 55 at home in Kingsport, Kings Co. on December 9, 2007. Born in Windsor, Ont. on February 11, 1952, she was the only daughter of the late Mervyn & Katherine (Treacy) Murphy. She is survived by her loving husband, Glen; brother, Paul; and sister-in-law, Lorraine Murphy, Windsor Ont.. Also her mother and father-in-law, Madge & Vernon Davison, Port Williams,. She will be sadly missed by several brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces & nephews, friends & co-workers and "Taboo" her special furry friend. Ruth was employed by the Valley Regional Hospital for the past 15 years. The many things that brought joy to Ruth’s life were family gatherings, love of animals, especially cats & birds, and spending time with her friends. Her warm hugs and laughter were her treasured gifts to us all. Cremation has taken place. Masland, Mary - Passed peacefully at Leacock Care Centre on December 10, 2007 in her 93rd year. Mary is predeceased by her husband John, and will be sadly missed by her daughter Victoria (Larry) Booth, her grandchildren Adam, Jennifer, Ashley, Alison, Marcus, Olivia, and Jared, and by her great grandson Cooper. Mary is predeceased by her sons Christopher (Linda) Masland of Nova Scotia, and Guy Masland, and also by brothers Peter and Vernon Jackson. Cremation has taken place. Betty Jean Williams– 75, of Evergreen Home for Special Care, Kentville, formerly of Wolfville, passed away Monday, December 10, 2007 in the home. Born in Melanson, Kings County, she was a daughter of the late Clifford and Rachel (Harvey) (Smith) Carey and step daughter of the late William “Tex” Carey. She worked for many years as a clerk for Cochrane’s Pharmasave in Wolfville. She was a member of St. Andrews United Church, Wolfville, where she had taught Sunday school for over 15 years as well as being a member of the U.C.W. She was also a member of the Wolfville Lionettes, the Wolfville Curling Club and several bridge clubs. She greatly enjoyed both cooking and knitting but her greatest passions were children, family gatherings and sweets. She is survived by her son, Jimmy (Cindy); three daughters, Barb (Tony), Pauli (Blake) and Beth (Andy); three brothers, Jerry, Joe, and Doug; three sisters, Eva, Ekie and Bonna; 11 grandchildren, Jake, Billy, Morgan, Sonya (Simeon), Brent, Melissa, Alex, Scott, Annie-Brae, David and Don-Leigh; five great granddaughters, Emily, Grace, Kate, Ayla and Hayden; two sisters-in-law, Maxine Hughson and Betty Chapman; her aunt, Evelyn Lightfoot and many very special nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by four brothers, Hughie, Merle, Vance and Sonny; one sister, Verna. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. CANN, Gladys Levenia, 92, of Digby, died Dec. 10, 2007, in Tideview Terrace, Digby. Funeral Dec. 14 in South Range Christian Church. Private family burial.

WYMAN, Philip Alfred – 90, Tidal View Manor, Yarmouth, and formerly of Grove Road, Yarmouth, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 11, 2007, in the Manor. Born February 26, 1917 in Arcadia, he was a son of the late Russell and Beatrice (Allen) Wyman. Philip was a retired postal clerk employed with Canada Post, and was a veteran of the second World War, having served overseas with the Royal Canadian Air Force. He was an adherent of Zion United Baptist Church, Yarmouth, and was a member of both the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 61, Yarmouth, and the Hiram Lodge Masons. Surviving are his wife, Shirley (Trefry) Wyman, as well as their daughter, Melanie Wyman (Wayne Babineau) and a grandson, Carter Philip Wyman, all of Lantz, Halifax Co.. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Shelly Caroline Wyman, and a brother, Wayvern Wyman. Cremation has taken place and there was no visitation by request. A Masonic service was held at 1:30 PM, followed by the memorial service at 2 PM, both on Saturday, December 15 from Zion United Baptist Church, Parade Street, Yarmouth, Rev. Brian Wallace officiated. STODDARD, Paul Ephriam - 77 years, of Yarmouth, passed away December 11, 2007. It is with a heavy heart that the family of Paul Stoddard announce the passing of their loving husband, father, uncle and grandfather. Surrounded by his family, Paul lost his short but courageous battle with cancer. Paul loved life, family and the outdoors. His many hobbies included fishing, hunting, woodworking and horseshoes, in which he won many trophies and titles over the years. He had a generous spirit and never lacked candy in his pocket, which he gave out readily to everyone who “needed it”. In his younger years he worked as a wheelsman on the Great Lakes aboard the AA Hudson. The bulk of his working years were spent in Yarmouth at the NSLC, retiring as the assistant manager. He was a member of the Carleton Legion Branch No. 167, Holy Trinity Anglican Church and the Nova Scotia Government Employee Retirement Association. Paul was a son of the late Ephriam and Mae (Thurston) Stoddard (of Sand Beach). He is survived by his loving wife, Betty (Crowell) Stoddard; daughters, Patricia (Frank) McKay of Dartmouth, Susan (Graham) Harris of Halifax, and Mary Lou (Billy) Hamilton of Yarmouth; grandchildren, Traci, Holli (McKay), Jocelyn, Geoffery (Harris), Jenna, Lacey, Jake (Hamilton); stepgrandchildren, Jeanette (great-grandchildren Michael and Matthew), Rosie (McKay); his sister, Dorothy (Armie) Rizzo, and aunt, Hilda (Hodder), along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by brothers, Gordon and Stanley (Buster). Visitation was held Thursday, Dec. 13 from 7-9 p.m. in Sweeny's Funeral Home, with a Legion Branch No. 167 service at 7:30 p.m. Funeral service took place Friday at 1 p.m. in Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Father Tom Vaughan officiated. McLaughlin, Harold Gordon – 92, of the Annapolis Royal Nursing Home, Annapolis Royal, formerly Bridgetown, passed away peacefully December 11, 2007 at the nursing home. Born in Round Hill he was a son of the late J. Hallett and Stella (Frude) McLaughlin. Harold served during the Second World War in the Navy and also as an officer in the Merchant Navy. He was a graduate of the University of Toronto in Institutional Management and then became a Master Baker. From there he went into sales until his retirement. Harold and his wife Joyda worked successfully in the Real Estate business until retirement in his seventies. While attending the University of Toronto, Harold was a member of the Varsity Archery Team. He is survived by his three children: Leslie, Ross and Sheanagh; seven grandchildren: Katrina, Shaun, Leif, Duncan, James, Jennifer, Amber and one great grandson: Rowan. He was predeceased by his first wife Barbara Anne (Keefer) and sister Pauliene. Cremation has taken place. A service of remembrance was held 2 p.m., Wednesday, December 19 from the Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Bridgetown. Rev. Marlyne Myles officiated. Interment in Riverside Cemetery. Kenneth Wayne Lutz - 49 of Aylesford, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Tuesday December 11, 2007, after a short but courageous battle with cancer. Born on January 13, 1958, in Berwick, Ken was the son of Phyllis (Ogilvie) Lutz and the late Ernest Lutz. Ken had been a member of the Aylesford Volunteer Fire Department. He spent the past 19 yrs working at Michelin. Ken will be sadly missed by his many family and friends. Besides his mother, Ken is survived by sisters, Barb (Don) Pinsent, Aylesford; Irene (Glenn) Harris, Berwick; brothers, Roger, Aylesford; Robert (Kathy), Morden; nieces, Beverly (Myles) Smith, Mississauga, Ont; Marion (Roy Hickey) Hiltz, Fredericton, NB; Cindy (Darren) Lawless, Woodlawn, Ont; Nancy (Yves Labrecque) Hiltz, Windsor, NS; Bethany Harris, Saint John, NB; nephews, Jeffrey Harris, Berwick, NS; William and Daniel Lutz, Morden, NS, several great - nieces & nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Visitation for the late Ken Lutz was held from 7-9 p.m. on Friday December 14 in the H.C.
